Ergänzung 2: Bisher habe ich keinen Versandt vorgesehen. Ich habe die Geräte auch noch nicht in der Hand. Sie wurden mir verlässlich zugesichert. Ich denke es sind DesktopPCs oder sog. Flattops.

Finally got around to rebuilding my PiHole DNS w/ Unbound.
Cannibalized 3x HP thinclients to make the one supreme client, Debian 12, docker-compose, containers ftw.

natürlich... ich glaub, ich hab noch nie Linux mit GUI installiert. Die schmalbrüstigen ThinClients, die hier mit Linux werkeln, können bestimmt gar keine GUI darstellen

Another great example of where companies dont do enough research into the market. This is not gonna be able to compete with Igel/10zig or other modern thinclients

Another great example of where companies dont do enough research into the market. This is not gonna be able to compete with Igel/10zig or other modern thinclients
The session hoping aka hot desking is only on the thinclients if I recall correctly.

hadn't looked into it but given that people have run mastodon/fedi instances on essentially underpowered thinclients, maybe a steam machine (2015) ... this does not surprise me

Lies Dich mal da rein. Proxmox ist leicht aufzusetzen und rennt auf ausgedienten ThinClients, die bekommste für <50€ auf Ebay. Da bammelst Du ein paar Platten/SSDs ran und dudelst VMs drauf. Nimmste 2, haste nen Cluster. Breitenskalierung langt für Zuhause dicke. Wenn eng wird, 1 dazu kaufen.

As someone pointed out, it's basically a desktop thinclient, so not that crazy. However, I think Microsoft feels more confident in this as a solution (thinclients are notoriously ... crappy lol).
We'll try to find out more about their justification for it. It's an interesting topic.

Man war aber nicht bereit für große Änderungen, sondern setzte zB weiter auf FatClients, statt - & da ist Linux super - ThinClients auszurollen & alles zentral auf eigenen Servern zu hosten.
Dann gab es eine Änderung der Ratsmehrheit, ein günstiges Angebot von Microsoft & den Abbruch des Projektes.

I forget if I complained about it here but I went in to do the hardware upgrades on the server for the thinclients to be rolled out and they sent the wrong RAM. The replacement RAM will be here between March 6 and March 21. I should have just bought questionable RAM from newegg instead. Thanks Dell.
