In 1951, Lester became the first Black pilot and one of the first pilots to successfully use an ejection seat after his F-84E Thunderjet exploded. From 1961 to 1968, he worked with the “Whiz Kids,” a group of experts assembled by Defense Secretary Robert McNamara to modernize military management. /6

Republic F-84 Thunderjet early cold-war US jetfighter during experiments with "zero-length" launch using Martin MGM-1 Matador solid-fuel booster rockets. These burned only a few seconds. Although these tests lasted until in the 1960ies, it was never used operationally.

Although the "Patrouille de France" had been in existence since the 1930s, it was officially created in 1953.
The patrol was initially equipped with "Thunderjet", the only non-national aircraft in the history of the formation. They were only used for one year.

Another aircraft from MAAM that I have posted before but needs more attention. The F-84B Thunderjet built in 1948. The Thunderjet is one of those aircraft that I have been spending more time with. There were more than 5000 built. So there were a lot of variants.

Retro Fly Past: In the First Year of the Blogs we took a look at this 1/48th Tamiya F-84G Thunderjet. A very nice build Out-of-the-Box with gun bay detail as well. See more on this kit here: www.flypastrush.com/post/photo-p...

Tamiya's release of this F-84G was a nice surprise after the Battleaxe kit disappointment and came ahead of Monogram's announced release.

TIL the F-84 Thunderjet that used to be on the courthouse lawn was here because it had a mechanical failure at the airport in the 50s and the Air Force was like meh y'all can just keep it

It could barely clear the runway fully loaded, yet the F-84 Thunderjet flew over 86,000 missions in Korea. Fast, rugged, and unforgiving, it marked the dawn of the U.S. Air Force jet age.

American aviation museum in Farmingdale New York lets you look into some cockpits and go onboard some aircraft. They are a small museum but it is the home of Republic and Grumman. So well worth a visit. Here is the cockpit of a F-84 Thunderjet.

@massiasthanos.bsky.social here is the Thunderjet at the Midatlantic Air Museum in Reading Pennsylvania. This is one of my older pictures of it. It was built in 1948. So one of the older P84's still out there.
