Do you know one thing helping spread Lyme and other tick borne diseases though? Climate change.
Just to be clear: Lyme was discovered by a CDC scientist investigating what was thought to be a cluster of juvenile rheumatoid arthritis cases in Lyme CT. It is not a bioweapon, but him saying it will ABSOLUTELY lead to people coming to me and other ID docs asking for testing/treatment 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️
Brutal exchange between RFK Jr. and Sen. Bennet:

Bennet: Did you say Lyme disease is a highly likely militarily engineered bioweapon?

Kennedy: I probably did say that.

As tick season ramps up, keep in mind importance of preserving any tick that attaches. In theory, a tick not engorged cannot pass on disease, but there can still be infection and for peace of mind I always send them to the Tick Report. Testing is fast and not that expensive. 1/2 www.tickreport.com

Maine has been battling Lyme disease for decades. By reauthorizing the bipartisan Kay Hagan Tick Act, we can keep fighting this disease by funding critical research and testing. It’s one small way we can work together to keep Maine people safe and healthy.

These dogs don't know what Bravecto is. They don't know who paid for it. They just know life is a little safer today.

GAR supporters funded Bravecto tablets for stray dogs cared for by Giannis in northern Greece, helping protect them from flea and tick-borne diseases.

Prevention matters. ❤️

Pfizer just announced that its Lyme disease vaccine reduced the number of tick-borne infections by over 70% in a phase 3 trial.

Warning: GSK pulled a Lyme vaccine in 2002 despite studies showing it posed no serious safety risks.

Any new Lyme vaccine is going to be a huge target for antivaxxers.

So consider this a PSA: tick-borne illness is worth taking seriously - even if you never saw a tick or the classic bull’s-eye rash.

The risk itself is changing. Climate isn’t the only factor but warming temperatures expand suitable tick habitat and lengthen the season when ticks are active.
