A diagnosis of #tickparalysis should be suspected when a child or adult presents with ascending motor weakness, a normal sensory examination, normal vital signs, and a known or possible exposure to ticks, particularly in the spring or summer months.

Tick paralysis: next step: remove the tick. No further treatment needed. #tickparalysis is rare, non-infectious condition caused by a neurotoxin found in the saliva of certain attached ticks.

There are four spectacled flying fox camps on the Atherton Tablelands that we monitor during tick season. We never know which camp is most likely to be affected each year.
