#toponomastics
I'd support it. There's such a thing as toponomastics. And conventional place names shouldn't be changed at the whimsy of some dictator in charge of the world's biggest banana republic.

All it is, is awkward trolling. Trump knows nothing of toponomastics, and revels in the belief that he rules the world. Hey, GOP, have you considered a strait-jacket as your emperor's new clothes?

One word: toponomastics

PC *klei̯tā can be analysed as a possessive adjective derived from PC *klit- “post, pillar” (cf. OIr. clí), from the PIE root *k̑lei̯- “to lean against”, which is the basis of numerous other formations in Celtic and other languages.
Clíath “hurdle” is famously present in Irish toponomastics:...

One word Trump would be even incapable of pronouncing: toponomastics.

Gulf of Mexico: toponomastics...

Trump and his idiocracy know nothing about toponomastics, and think their inflated egos can dictate how the rest of the world operates.

The link here is postapocalyptic toponomastics, but if you've never read 'Riddley Walker' by Russell Hoban, I strongly recommend taking a look at the first chapter and seeing whether it's for you.

Kay Muhr (3) spoke about "Places in the biography of king Conchobur and glimpses of queen Medb" (i.e. toponomastics).

Erasure, colonialism.
Curiosity, land acknowledgement.
The first name of this place?
[Toponymy or toponomastics, the scientific study of changing place names (toponyms).]
The Miwok/Miwuk are still here, ~3,500 tribal members, 900 acres returned in 2025!
Land back!

There's a branch of linguistics devoted to the study of proper names (onomastics) and within that, a branch devoted to place names (toponomastics)

I wonder what the depth of study is in these fields for Canadian place names.

Google is just kowtowing to Donald the Vast. Neither Trump nor Google apparently know toponomastics, i.e., how places come to be named.

After Trump's arrogant and pretentious Gulf of America stunt, I fully expect him to name his horse to the Senate... oh, wait! That was Caligula.

The Orange Dinglenuts knows nothing of toponomastics. His taunt has all the strength of a schoolyard bully.

Toponomastics exist for a reason. Toponymy should not be subject to the whims of a flaming narcissist inflated with imperialist grandiosity.

One word everyone needs to know and understand: toponomastics.

The guy probably can't pronounce 'toponomastics', let alone understand it.

...and Mexico understands toponomastics. Trump can't even pronounce the name.
January 31, 2025 at 3:29 PM
Trump and all of his dimwit followers can't even pronounce the word 'toponomastics', les alone understand what it means and how it works.

🙄Just saw someone baffled by "toponomastics" (the study of place names - perfectly obvious Greek roots!). All this "people knowing more than me is deeply suspect" nonsense needs to stop. If I come across a word I don't know, I *look it up*. And then I've learned something.
