Another great night in my favourite Japanese hotel chain, the #ToyokoInn. Quintessential Japanese “business hotel” experience, and you have to love beige, but I appreciate the consistency of experience, station-side locations and the lovely deep soaking tubs after a day of walking.

Also, many #ToyokoInn locations (most, counting outside really big cities) are right next to the Shinkansen or mainline rail tracks, meaning that if you like watching trains (and I do) the views are incredible.

Here, have a #ToyokoInn room tour. This one's a Double, which has a separate little table and comes with a 160cm-wide bed (normal is 120cm) and TWO pillows.
Japan is SCRUPULOUSLY clean. For budget (includes breakfast!), location, and ease of booking, you can't beat the Toyoko Inn chain.

I couldn't agree more! Hundreds of clean, comfortable hotels — with your own AC/heating, crucial in Japan — right next to main train stations, with good wifi, and a very Japanese breakfast included, for under 40€ a night.

Japan has several chains of "business hotels", which are very inexpensive, efficient, standardised, and nationwide.
You'll recognise my favourite, Toyoko Inn, from its weird beige buildings and iconic blue signs, often right next to a railway station.

While I am overall glad that the #ToyokoInn got rid of the unabashedly hideous polyester duvets from the 2010s, I do miss the inexplicable sort-of-American-style paintings they used to have in every room.

I'm absolutely charmed at how baffled the #ToyokoInn cleaning staff must be if you have more than two pillows on the bed (one per person is standard, but I like to curl up on them).
I just imagine three people standing there staring at the bed going "but what does he DO with all these pillows?"
