Can we crowdfund the purchase of this transcript
October 30, 2026 at 3:22 PM
LOLOLOL.

The transcript names them. You CANNOT have read the transcript and not known there were Dem staffers.
Safer has some questions on re-direct.

Safer: You were asked if there are Democratic staffers on Judiciary Committee. You said, I assume there are, I have no idea. Correct?

Witt: Yes

Safer: You were under oath?

Witt: Yes

Safer shows another excerpt from transcript that's not in the affidavit and not given to Castor...in excerpt, Benavides says he *doesn't recall* being told that FBI had possession of laptop...point is that context matters..Castor didn't have context bc didn't read transcript, wasn't given transcript

I couldn't find a transcript of this TV Guide interview online, so if anyone would like to read it, I took pictures. It's from January, 1994.

Judge Reyes asks what "my knowledge" means.

Woodward: I'm not familiar with every statement made in the case.

Says he hasn't read every transcript in the case.
October 30, 2026 at 2:08 PM
Reyes notes that, for "weeks" someone was making this CPC plan, and DOJ represented nothing to the court.

Reyes quoted from the Oct. 12 hearing transcript.
October 30, 2026 at 4:09 PM
Woodward doesn't want to answer a question about a prior representation.

Judge Reyes says, fine, we'll take a break so you can look at the transcript.

Now on break until 12:30.

Live-posting this hearing was quite challenging. Things moved fast, there were references to materials that aren’t public, and I don’t have a transcript yet. But here’s a 🧵with some additional details we learned today (with the caveat that i’ll need to confirm some things w/ the transcript later):
COMING UP: Preliminary hearing before magistrate judge Faruqui in the criminal case of former FBI agents charged with false statements to Congress and obstruction.

Things could get very interesting...

I'm here in the media room for @lawfaremedia.org. Follow along!
While you were sleeping: DOJ files superseding complaint, adds obstruction counts in case against former FBI agents Nikki Floris and Bradley Benavides

Preliminary hearing set for today at 11 am.

Reyes: Wait! Hold up! That's a news flash! The tree removal was in preparation for the closure of the course?

Woodward: That's not what I said.

Reyes: Keep shoveling, there's a transcript
October 30, 2026 at 2:40 PM
Yeah, Reyes is almost certainly now with her clerks reviewing the transcript of the October 19 hearing and what Woodward just said and is likely to come back with some very precise questions.
Woodward essentially says, "I don't remember any question asking for that, esp since the map drawing was already out there."

Reyes essentially responds, "Are you serious?"

W: I repeatedly objected on deliberative process.

R: We're taking a 15-minute break

I would imagine Judge Reyes is going to go back to the transcript from the prior hearing since Woodward now says the plan has been in process for weeks to see if that is inconsistent with a prior representation or the declarations.

MJ interjects: And it's not like these are classified documents, right? Like this transcript is something the general counsel of the committee could definitely get?

Safer: Exactly...

I joined @gregsargent.bsky.social on his fabulous podcast to talk about Trump’s desperate, off-message campaign speeches filled with the kind of ineffective culture war slop I wrote about yesterday for Public Notice.

Every newspaper that ran a stupid article on the Cheesecake Factory “outrage” should run a transcript of this in full. That would be actual journalism.
"The president wasn't even mad about the Saddam Hussein comparison! But he was very upset about the Cheesecake Factory" -- here's Obama's full riff about the "phony outrage" over his Trump/Cheesecake Factory comments and how it illustrates that "these are not serious people"
