For more than 70 days, resistors took turns sitting in the branches of the “Grandmother” cottonwood in Lochiel, Arizona, trying to save it and the habitat around it. This morning, Border Patrol raided their camp, removed the tree sitter, and contractors knocked it down.

A thing has happened! The SwiftTreeSitter project has been transferred to the tree-sitter organization.

I'll still be involved, but it's now definitely more official.

🚨 All eyes on the border wall blockade at Camp O:ṣhad in Lochiel, Ariz.

This morning, over 50 Border Patrol / BORTAC agents raided the resistance camp, entering private property without a warrant, attacking land defenders & deploying a cherry-picker to extract the tree sitter.

Latest from this morning: tree sitter is still in the tree, holding strong after hours without water, food, or a platform to rest on, stranded in the branches 100 feet off the ground without safety or a way to get down.

As of Thursday, the locked down protester had been reportedly removed and taken into custody. A tree-sitter on the Mexican side of the border was still perched in the last remaining cottonwood.

did the folks behind tree-sitter ever get some sort of award? with hindsight, it was industry-changing stuff — completely transformed the landscape of syntax highlighting.

If you want to check out the source code, it's available at github.com/discord/arbo.... Your favorite language may not be supported, but please feel free to submit a patch with new grammars: they need only be permissively licensed.
