#treeholes
Super proud of @stancaf.bsky.social and @shubhamsoni.bsky.social for having led this important Natural History study. Surely you have heard about arboreal 🐍, but did you ever imagine them to dive to hunt for tadpoles in treeholes?! You're welcome! 👉 doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

In June the project LandUseMultBEF had been working in the forest plots of Schorfheide-Chorin, collecting water-filled treeholes. Larvae were extracted from the samples, and a predation experiment was conducted to identify the macroinvertebrate predator species inhabiting these cavities.

...Mr. Petalrich is a huggling - a species that is very plant-affine. The hugglings got their name because when they were first seen they were just emerging from their treeholes after hibernation climbing down looking like dozens of little treehuggers. By heart they surely are. 2/2

The species above is a nature lover, avoiding drains and pipes for treeholes and such, but those that do get into homes (Clogmia albipunctata) are also cute and fuzzy upon closer inspection:

No we don't, we just collect them from the treeholes.
