Photo of a Greenshank (Tringa nebularia), a wading bird with a long beak and long legs. This one is walking towards the right of the picture, along the muddy edge of a pool of water, with head lowered as the bird looks for potential prey. The bird has a dark, blackish beak. The eye is also dark, with a pale rim. The throat and forehead are whitish, while the rest of the head, the neck and the back are white with lots of brownish speckling. The wing feathers are dark, with thin whitish borders, and the underparts are white. The legs - at least, those parts of them not covered with mud - are a greenish brown colour. Behind the bird on the muddy shore, lots of green plant stems rise upwards. The Greenshank, and the green vegetation behind the bird, are reflected on the surface of the water.

Uma ave limícola de médio porte caminha pelas águas rasas de um brejo com vegetação rasteira. O pássaro possui um bico fino, reto e escuro, direcionado para baixo. Sua cabeça apresenta um padrão estriado com tons de marrom e branco, incluindo uma sobrancelha clara proeminente. O dorso e as asas são cobertos por uma plumagem densa de cor marrom-escura, salpicada por manchas brancas e cinzentas que criam um efeito mosqueado. As partes inferiores, incluindo o peito e a barriga, são brancas, criando um contraste nítido com o dorso escuro. Suas pernas são longas, finas e possuem uma tonalidade amarelada ou esverdeada. Tringa flavipes, Tringa glareola e Calidris melanotos vistos esta fin de semana. Debería haber tamén un Tringa solitaria, pero tivemos que abandonar a súa busca porque “os donos do monte” andaban pegando tiros a pouco máis de 100 metros de onde estabamos.

Uma ave pernalta em perfil, posicionada sobre uma superfície aquática rasa e reflexiva. Possui plumagem dorsal cinza-escuro com padrões mosqueados em tons mais claros e brancos nas bordas das penas das asas. O peito e o ventre são brancos, apresentando pequenas manchas escuras dispersas na região do peito. A cabeça é cinza com um padrão sutil de listras e um olho escuro bem definido. O bico é longo, reto, fino e de cor escura. O destaque principal são as longas e delgadas pernas de cor amarelo-vivo, que terminam em pés com dedos adaptados para o ambiente arenoso e alagado. A postura da ave é elegante e alerta, mantendo o corpo paralelo ao solo. The lesser yellowlegs (Tringa flavipes) is a medium-sized shorebird in the sandpiper family, Scolopacidae. It is migratory, breeding in the wetlands of the boreal forest across Alaska and northern Canada, and wintering in a region from coastal North America through Central America, the Caribbean and South America. It is 23–25 cm (9.1–9.8 in) long with a wingspan of 59–64 cm (23–25 in), and has yellow legs and a slender, straight bill. The species forages actively in shallow water and on land, feeding mainly on invertebrates, small fish and crustaceans. Both parents incubate the eggs and care for the young. It is classified as a vulnerable species by the IUCN, with threats including hunting during migration, habitat loss and degradation, and the possible effects of climate change on its breeding habitat.
