DID only became the proper name in 1994. So pop culture already had the entire 20th century calling it multiple personality disorder and troping it to death. DID took a while to catch on. In my experience it never got confused with schizophrenia, bc it was troped as Jekyll & Hyde the condition.

As a LGBTQ+ women, I don't care whose telling the stories as long as they represent LGBTQ+ people respectfully and without conscious and unconscious bias that leads to pejorative and troped representations of us. Stories don't belong to any one or any group. There are no gatekeepers.
