The MN department of health just posted an advisory about higher than expected cases of tularemia, which you can get by mowing over an infected animal.

A couple other bacterial diseases attracted research attention as biological weapons for slightly more specific applications:

- Tularemia, because it's almost as good as Anthrax for the above but is easy to decontaminate, so good for targets you want to TAKE

- Plague, because psychological impact

Also infectivity of Anthrax (as well as Plague and Tularemia, but those are more niche) is so high you can reasonably infect an entire city with a single missile, anyways

American dog ticks (Ixodidae: Dermacentor variabilis) are common arachnids in eastern North America. Larvae and nymphs feed on rodent blood, but adults feed on several larger mammals, including humans. They can transmit both Rocky Mountain spotted fever and tularemia. Clayton Michigan, 07 May 2013.

Tularemia cases going up last 10 years compared to earlier this century. Lots in NE this last year too.

Why? Climate changes? Better/more testing?

So like... this is probably fine, right? Especially given Russia's current problems, and Putin's love of past glories, and what some of those past research projects on diseases involved, right? TOTALLY FINE. Definitely not like tularemia...
