Back in the day, WordPress won because it enabled competitors to build instances and contribute to the open-source code base while Typepad tried to restrict competitors using its code. WordPress is now huge, Typepad gone.

Sad to see Typepad go :/ I didn't work on it but I worked with the Typepad team a lot when I was at LiveJournal after the acquisition. Of course, a dignified shutdown may be better than what happened to LiveJournal, sigh.

Infuriating they were reassuring customers as recently as March. "If it were to change at some point, there would likely be a tool to help bloggers migrate to another platform. However, as mentioned, there is no plan at this time to shut down Typepad, and the Support team are still here for you."
Typepad told me they aren't going out of business. Hope that's true.

Whatever was run off of Movable Type for several years until the software couldn't scale anymore and then I moved it to Wordpress where it remains to this day. I wasn't aware Typepad was still out there in the world.

I would've followed lyz to typepad, so this is a no-brainer.
