Any politicians who think they should have influence over the independent judiciary is either corrupt, committing crimes, is signalling to those who are that they endorse and support such behaviours, or all of the above.

What was spent by Premier Notley for Education -Funded 4,000 additional teachers and educational assistants to make sure our kids have the best chance to succeed. -Introduced a school nutrition program in every school district, feeding an estimated 33,000 kids daily. -Built or renovated over 240 schools across the province. -Invested $75 million in additional classroom supports so that our kids have the best chance to succeed. -Enhanced curriculum to teach Alberta students about the history of Canada’s Indigenous peoples, and the legacy of residential schools. -Tightened rules around Gay Straight Alliances so kids can join them without being outed before they are ready. -Eliminated the $1,000 fee for the Green Certificate Program, an agriculture apprenticeship program. Enrolment jumped with the fee elimination. -Introduced guidelines for the wages of school superintendents to bring wages and benefits in line with the rest of the public service. The move puts $1.5 million back into the classroom. -Developed an action plan to combat racism in Alberta, including improvements to school curriculum and help for workers getting foreign credentials recognized. Reversed Conservative cuts to Program Unit Funding (PUF) for school children with disabilities. The program is essential for young children to provide staff for early intervention and make sure they get the best education possible. -Started a $2-million grant program to support community initiatives that raise awareness and understanding of racism and its impacts on Albertans. -Cut school fees by 25 per cent. -Created a new program to cover the cost of school playgrounds so parent's don't have to. -Added consent to the curriculum of students from Kindergarten to Grade 12. -Invested more than $70 million to support mental health and other paramedical support programs in K-12 schools. -Worked with and gathered input from more than 100,000 ALBERTANS to develop a new K-4 curriculum and set up a process to see a similar curriculum completed for older grades in the years ahead. -Funded WiseGuyz, a program that educates 300 Calgary junior high school boys about gender violence and tolerance. Schools with the program have reported reduced violence rates and a noticeable change in school culture and tolerance.

I think we can all agree that her opinion is not a medical opinion and therefore should be dismissed.

Her opinion that parliament has supremacy over the charter is disturbing to say the least. We should never consider that politicians have the ability to take away people’s rights.
Smith told critics of a law restricting health care for transgender youth Wednesday they need to read up on puberty while Alberta doctors say she's being condescending. Smith has defended the law that prohibits doctors from prescribing puberty blockers for those under 16, saying the drugs permanently sterilize children. "I encourage you to look up what puberty is," she said to reporters in Edmonton. "Puberty is the process a child goes through to become sexually mature so they can have babies. Puberty blockers, by very definition, stops that process." The Alberta Medical Association is pushing back, saying Smith needs to do her own research. "(Puberty blockers) don't render a person infertile or sterile. That is not true," said Dr. Sam Wong, president of the association's pediatrics section. "To say that they're sterile is a gross overstatement, because you would never say that a six-year-old is sterile because they can't have children. Maybe (Smith) should get her facts straight, be less con-descending." Wong said he's surprised the premier made the claim again Wednesday, because she has been corrected before. "It's such a falsehood and misnomer. It's quite incredible that she can get away with saying that. I don't know where she's getting her medical information from, but the way she's stating it is not true." On Saturday, Smith told her call-in radio audience that a decision hasn't yet been made on using the notwithstanding clause. "Puberty blockers, by definition, stop the process of sexual maturity and it means that you're sterilizing children, and we're not going to do it." Smith was also unequivocal Monday when she told CBC that puberty blockers amount to sterilization. "When you give puberty blockers to a child who's not gone through puberty, they don't become sexually mature, which means they can't have children. And we just happen to be of the view that those are decisions that are made when you're a grown-up," she said.
