#ue4
whatever sweeney might say, "ue6" has meaning, implied by what ue5 was to ue4, ue4 was to 3, etc. if he does what he says he'll do, there simply isn't a ue6, any more than there would be if he pointed to a passing bird and said "that's ue6"

So this just screws over the advantage they had with so many people having been taught and trained on UE4 and 5 right

The obviously very skilled 3d artist and animator solo dev who posts their OC and bits of their unity/ue4 game project for a whole decade without ever shipping anything to vtuber music video animator pipeline

every other day i am reminded how glad i am that i dropped ue5 in favor of just staying on ue4. this engine is just. losing it.
November 3, 2026 at 6:00 PM
Man, I need to finish my game then get the hell away from UE4 and to Godot.
November 2, 2026 at 12:14 PM
Same, it's devastating. I like the idea of going back to UE4.
I know I won't update past 5.4 at least.

Epic's repeatedly shot itself in the foot when it comes to Unreal Engine for *years*. Having used UDK, UE4, and UE5, there's things in each version where I found myself going "really? They removed *that*???"

But this? Nah. This is just fucking dumb.
Both Blueprints AND C++ Gameplay Framework being removed from Unreal Engine??
November 3, 2026 at 12:49 PM
Just so y'all know, we are too deep into Rad's development to even consider switching engines, but we're not updating past 5.6. 5.7 onward has AI shit in it

Any future projects, if we do stick with Unreal, will either be in 5.6 or we'll downgrade to UE4

New hostile mob inspired by SCP 999, this one will try to eat Spyro by swallowing him into his jelly slime.

Theres so much C++ knowledge in this industry its insane to strip it away like this. Literally the best part of UE5 was you could port from UE4. This makes that impossible without massive rewrites of everything.
November 3, 2026 at 5:00 PM
based on how ue4 went, ue5 was essentially 100% guaranteed to be a class act, no reason not to upgrade, lots to love. with 6, they're explicitly ripping out everything good and replacing it with things everyone hates, while breaking things and laying all their best people off. so yeah
November 3, 2026 at 11:48 AM
Because of Sweeney's/Epic's BS I already planned to not use it unless I absolutely have to for a job, but every new thing that comes out about UE6 just looks increasingly not worth it for anyone with experience in UE4 and 5.
November 3, 2026 at 7:53 PM
Yeah, it's actually insane. Quite possibly every single plugin that has been written for UE4&5 is gonna be broken on UE6, years of tutorials and guides are useless. I doubt people will be able to upgrade a project with any sort of complexity to UE6, it basically has to be a whole rewrite
November 3, 2026 at 11:47 AM
I also started making a 2.5D platform game in UE4 when it was new. I had no coding skills back then and the blueprint system made it accessible. I got bored because of course I did, so it never got finished. But it was functional albeit janky.

I'd not touch UE6 with a 50 foot pole.
November 4, 2026 at 10:13 AM
And studios "jumping on UE5" from another engine are doing so in part because there's a huge reservoir of devs with experience in the engine. No one is using UE6 "yet", and (tying back to Joe's earlier point about UE4->UE5) it sure sounds like UE5 experience ISN'T going to carry over.
November 3, 2026 at 12:26 PM
I really do like so much about UE4 and UE5... it makes me sad thinking about the direction Epic is going in, and all the games already in progress that are now going have their stink on them.
November 3, 2026 at 8:21 PM
it will be interesting to see what will happen since i expect all ue4/5 devs are never gonna upgrade

Happy 5 years Murder drones!

...I have exactly nothing to show for today.. but I do wanna post something, so take this uzi 4k (kinda) pog render in UE4 I made for my video thumbnail
have fun I suppose lol

Yea he's going down with the ai ship at this rate. Ue5 and Ue4 deserve to be ripped away from him.
November 3, 2026 at 6:05 PM
Can't wait for them to inevitably pull UE4/5 off the internet without warning and tell us to use the vibe coding engine
November 3, 2026 at 5:57 PM
I think the only ue4 game I played was bfga2. there was a lot of overlap with people using 3 when it was an old engine
November 3, 2026 at 12:43 PM
November 4, 2026 at 1:42 AM
If not engine why engine shaped, the engine

Anyways good luck having UE4 & UE5 as the last engines used by any AA or lower games studio

Une enquête conjointe publiée ce mardi par l'application Yuka et Que Choisir dénonce l'« additive washing » en supermarché, révélant que 19 produits sur 20 affichant des mentions rassurantes cachent en réalité des additifs nocifs.
