#ultranationalism
By embracing ultranationalism and national syndicalism without doing a mass genocide against citizens of his own country, Benito Mussolini did fascism the right way.

so i think the key to understanding this is that the current palingenetic ultranationalism of the US basically views the 50s-80s as the high point of American Civilization
I just looked up this "Cracker Barrel" restaurant chain and I was somewhat unprepared for the level of theming they apparently have? Like this is a chain founded in 1969 that is kind of play-acting about being a turn of the 19th century general store?

Otherwise its just sparkling ultranationalism.

Griffin’s definition of fascism as palingenetic ultranationalism—specifically a reactionary nostalgia for a lost history of the nation that never existed—remains undefeated. A nostalgia for a type of bread that is ubiquitous, created in the 20th century, and rage towards bread as old as civilisation
🚨BREAKING:

Bread is now woke, according to Alex Phillips

what gets me about radical trumpism is how much it's driven by kitsch

the temu version of palingenetic ultranationalism
Nothing cultishly hallucinatory about what Trump is touting as this “epic drone show.” Nope. Nothing fascist about a giant white fist in the sky with the word fight, which then changes shape into Great Leader looking down on subjects.

palingenetic ultranationalism but for the postwar 1960s will be forever baffling to me
The idea that the US was more powerful and prosperous in the early 1960s than in recent decades is just bonkers, and yet it is central tenet of this terrible regime.
Eyes wide open, folks. They're revealing the supervillain plot.

Who will create the fakey pagan ultranationalism for former ICE goons???

like Canadian liberal ultranationalism levels

‘Trump, by contrast, is obsessed by the decline of a once great imperial power, and dreams of rebuilding it’ my god that’s literally a summation of Roger Griffith’s definition of fascism as palingenetic ultranationalism
will place $100 dollars that this line from Moyn's latest will age like milk in 4 years (so, we can call it by the next Presidential election)

Girlboss, because hyperconservative ultranationalism means being the ultimate boss

jesus christ man... this is just gonna be a worldwide swing into ultranationalism for my lifetime huh

"What is fascism?"

Tbh, Bethesda recreating Hitler from first principles while trying to make a sympathetic, morally gray ultranationalist would itself be accidentally a brilliant commentary on ultranationalism.
bethesda, your confusing and half thought out writing does it again!

really the dark religious ultranationalism of early modern russia is something which really illuminates what is going on in russia right now
as far as i can tell the Old Believers really did get that mad that the spelling errors in the Russian Orthodox liturgy got corrected

"biological sex" is going to die as a natural given in the 21st century or human societies are going to die defending it. with the fascist ultranationalism resting upon a massive biopolitical reassertion, this is genuinely what the stakes feel like
August 4, 2025 at 11:00 PM
i fear people underestimate, sometimes, how terribly fascist the world has become and how horrifying it is that there is no internationalist political vehicle to counteract the "every framework of politics is structurally operating like an ultranationalism" situation

Worldwide crises shaking the world today are almost entirely driven by far-right ideology:

•Ultranationalism
•Religious extremism
•Authoritarian Populism

Are they deliberately quoting Roger Griffin's definition of fascism as a "myth of palingenetic ultranationalism"
like, take a look at this IM-1776 article on annexing Greenland: they view it as their duty to seize Greenland and make it theirs
January 17, 2025 at 4:07 PM
I am done calling it far right populism by the way and I am not wading into the fascism debate so ultranationalism it is.

How pickled in far-right ultranationalism would you have to be to imagine that it's patriotic to scrawl your national flag on the ground for cars to drive over?
The culture war has reached a whole new depth of stupidity
How stewed in far-right ultranationalism would you have to be to imagine that it's patriotic to scrawl your national flag on the ground for cars to drive over?

Japan, famously never criticized for racism and ultranationalism

my reaction to the palantir manifesto which advocates for what is essentially nrx techno-fascist ultranationalism is that with the current state of things this will be tweaked and pushed as the main opposition to trumpism by a coalition of hawkish democrats and republicans advocating for law & order
