#unbanked
kind of not ideal that the world economy is run by a cabal of pedophiles but also the two corporations that control all consumer spending think that if you jerk off you should be unbanked

Note that the FDIC's 2023 survey of "National Survey of Unbanked and Underbanked Households" asks crypto questions, and surprise surprise, the "banked" use crypto far more than the "unbanked".

setting aside everything else, cryptocurrency holding peaks in the 30-44 demographic (at 11%) and the rate of young people being unbanked continues to fall, 18-29s currently standing at around 10%, roughly an all-time low. As has always been true, the unbanked are mostly those with incomes <$25,000
Young men don't open bank accounts. They are too expensive. They download coin base or Robinhood app and buy crypto. That's their savings

If one party pushes that number higher. They vote for em. Gensler/Biden caused those savings to go down. The demo with the biggest change was young men
This is legit the dumbest thing I've ever seen him say

The mommunism account rules. Trying to get people to fall for scams but wokishly. You need to give out your account numbers otherwise you're discriminating against the unbanked.

unbanked or unwanked 😔

"Congresspeople" and "unbanked individuals in the US" are two sides of a Venn diagram that's miles in diameter

for no reason does anyone have a good guide for going unbanked without it having to do with any of that silly crypto bullshit
February 1, 2025 at 5:49 AM
kids, the unbanked, the phoneless, people of all abilities should be able to take *public* transit easily
This is the case in San Diego and it is completely insane. Totally excludes those without phone (or bank account) or those who can’t deal with all the hoops you have to jump through to get the app set up. I have had to set it up for various technologically challenged individuals.

my crank theory for the day is intuit did this intentionally as part of a corrupt deal with trump to reduce refund payments to unbanked populations, which are largely BIPOC and hispanic
March 19, 2026 at 5:09 PM
people who own crypto (still a very small percentage of the population btw) are MORE likely to also use banks. The percentage of people who are unbanked is 4.5%. Of those, only 1.2% own crypto. So what Cuban is describing as a big trend is like .05% of the population at most.
March 25, 2025 at 3:10 PM
(most people who are unbanked are unbanked for reasons like "don't trust the financial system" or "don't have an ID", not "no convenient banks nearby".)

Much less chance of ending up unbanked that way.

It's possible that 66 year old billionaire Mark Cuban is not the 'unbanked young man' whisperer
March 25, 2025 at 3:49 AM
Does he still somehow manage to remain unbanked as one of the most powerful men in the country?
November 21, 2025 at 3:11 PM
everyone dunking is dunking on this because it's stupid, but it's also just wrong. we have actual numbers on who is unbanked and this is not consistent with those numbers.

Not to derail the argument but..

Is the $8k just for those who have a bank account?

I've seen estimates of 5-7% unbanked & ~20% under banked. All good arguments for a minimum-fee postal bank

and don't get me started on banking! "lower-income, less-educated, Black, Hispanic, disabled, and single-parent households continue to be significantly more likely to be unbanked. In addition, the FDIC survey found two-thirds (66.2 percent) of unbanked households relied entirely on cash"

Less than 10% of 18-29s are unbanked and that is predominantly people with very low incomes. Crypto is most popular with the 30-44, with 11% and falling having holdings. It's a very niche product

What did Reagan call them??! Welfare queens? Hey @grindr.bsky.social how does the unbanked welfare queen pay for his account???
September 3, 2026 at 6:32 PM
Also, how does he think they pay rent and buy groceries? The supermarket is not taking cyptro or stock tips in exchange for food. (this is exactly why being unbanked is hard, and post office banks are great)
March 25, 2025 at 1:26 PM
As for the unbanked part, ask @leavittalone.bsky.social what we could be leveraging with the USPS to address that issue if you want an earful
February 25, 2026 at 3:16 PM
There's no such thing as "unbanked" or the "democratization of finance"

People are unbanked because they have NO MONEY.
February 20, 2025 at 3:59 PM
I really want to hammer what this means. @mcuban.bsky.social is combining an un and underbanked narrative with his narrative about the crypto usage of young men. According to the best data we have, a 2023 FDIC survey, only about 1% of crypto users are unbanked.
Note that the FDIC's 2023 survey of "National Survey of Unbanked and Underbanked Households" asks crypto questions, and surprise surprise, the "banked" use crypto far more than the "unbanked".

A ton of low-wage workers don't get direct deposit, but get paid on payroll cards.

14.2 % of households are unbanked or underbanked.
