This is the most important picture from the RAIB bulletin... It's a lateral kink that likely snapped into a buckle under the rear part of the train, but given discussion by the RAIB over embankment condition, the specific trigger remains unknown. Still plenty that's now confirmed though.

I only speak from beneath this bridge because I am fixing it; I charge no tolls, I only warn of its holes, which I swear are not places to reach through and drag the unwary to my cookpot, which I assure is just a tool for bridge construction.

Got TWO #WIPSnips that fit this one. The first one is from my WIP book, Underbridge, which is the sequel to Addernotch. The second one is from a short story that has nothing to do with either of them I'm taking a stab at. Some profanity ahead.

We got a #kobold, a #dwarf, and a panicky #nerd.
An excerpt from the first rough draft of Underbridge that reads as follows: Skunk nodded along slowly, a small smile creeping up on his face. He closed his eyes, taking a breath. I gotta remember I’m not alone in feeling like this, he thought before giving Danica a big smile. “Well hey, if I could convince Addernotch, you can convince Stonefall! Or, you know, whatever’s left of it.” Danica nodded. “We’ll see, I guess. They’re not important right now, though,” she grunted before writing something down and setting the book aside. “Right. Go and get some rest. Got a big day tomorrow, and you don’t want to waddle up to the Assemblage only half awake.” Skunk scoffed in mock offense. “Waddle? Danica, I do not waddle!” “You do.” Skunk puffed up his cheeks at her, then yelped when she surprised him by ruffling the spot between his horns like a head of hair. He was quick to withdraw, snarling playfully at her. His sounds of offense were quickly silenced when Danica threw her spare pillow into his face, knocking him flat back onto his nest. “Sleep, Skunk,” Danica instructed. “I mean it.” Skunk pried the pillow off his face long enough to stick his nose at Danica, but did not argue the point any farther. As he started to coil up in his nest, though, he paused. He lifted his eyes to Danica as she was getting herself tucked into bed. His thoughts returned briefly to what she’d said to him about why she maintained her stonesong, and he smiled. “Hey, Danica?” “What?” “Thank you. For showing me your book,” he said quietly. “I appreciate it. And I think I needed to hear it.” Danica didn’t say anything for a few moments, then rolled to put her back to him. “Don’t mention it.” An excerpt from an in progress and as-yet unnamed short story. It reads as follows: The guard brought her inside, but left her little time to look around, much as she may have wanted to. The interior of the manor was opulent, to be sure, and well lit at that. Sadly, she had no time to admire the paintings or look at the flower pots in the corners. She was brought to a small and cozy room with a hearth in the far wall, unlit. Two cushioned couches stood across from one another like opposing generals, their battlefield a coffee table that filled the space between. “Make yourself comfy,” the guard said. “I’ll go and fetch master Hathwrite.” “Thank you,” Hella nodded to the guard respectfully. She kept her eyes on him as he turned and stepped out. Then, the moment the door was shut, she dropped the act. “Oh gods,” she rasped, falling into the nearest seat and holding a hand to her chest. “Fuck. Fuck fuck fuck, breathe, shit, fuck, breathe, ach! Gods, that was stressful!” she rambled, clutching at her head with both hands. “My feminine beauty? What the hell was I talking about?! That’s not the kind of thing you say if you’ve taken a vow of bloody celibacy, you witless buffoon!” She took several more deep breaths, closing her eyes to compose herself. She didn’t know how long she had before the master of the estate came knocking, and she had to restore her act before then. How the hell do the inquisitors do this all the time? She wondered. Might help that they actually have the authority to back up their words. I don’t.

Another one from yesterday's walk. Railway underbridge over a brook near Yatton. The railway is sadly closed, ran from Yatton to Cheddar and Wells, but it makes a nice walk. Not sure where to walk today, but it will be closer to home.
