"The gov't says that SHA's means testing tool is a fair & objective way to calculate how much people need to pay for access to healthcare. But our findings reveal... how, from the start, it was designed to systematically overcharge the poorest Kenyans, while undercharging the wealthiest."

As much as it is to our benefit at @tranquilitypress.bsky.social (!), I do fundamentally think most digital artists who get commission work online are chronically undercharging

I've retired from freelance/consultancy, but lots of pertinent observations here. For those still out there, (especially education), this is a must read.
" #undercharging hurts us all. Every time one of us accepts a rate that's too low, it gets harder for the next person to ask for more" #UKED
Freelancers' silence about money keeps rates low, and clients benefit from it.

There was a Freelancers Get Sh*t Done session today based on a survey of day rates. Under-charging hurts us all.

My write-up:

Freelancers should be better at talking about money
Earlier today, members from the Freelancers Get Sh\t Done (FGSD) community met online for an hour to talk about it anyway. I've been part of the community, whic…

I wish more artists knew how much they should value themselves, if you're doing professional work, please, charge professional levels. In the indie crowd and freelance one we are Chronically undercharging. Some of ya'll are pro level charging like, 80 bucks and it drives me Insane. CHARGE MORE!!!

Hey @katmabu.bsky.social it would be a real shame if your lawyers raised their hourly rates to $5000 as they were undercharging earlier…

Also Title 11 contempt and disbarment
November 6, 2026 at 1:39 AM
i think people should charge higher in general... when i comm, if i can on the moment, i always try to tip... if i comm an artist who is undercharging ill tip especially more

Fun fact: Monopolies undercharging to tie you in, and beat the competition is illegal.

But, you know, USofA is corrupt beyond repair.

My hourly rate and the detail I can achieve. Because I feel I’m undercharging for what I can make 🤔

"Artists should charge more! You all are undercharging and should be charging for what you are worth!"

"Cool. So how much do you pay for commissions? I'd like to get a gauge."

"....I don't have enough money to commiss--"

"Then shhhhhh.. Just shhhhh."

Send billions of dollars to me instead of Israel so I can commission and grossly tip every undercharging artist instead.
October 28, 2026 at 6:33 AM
i try to charge ~18 an hour or so, im good at this kinda thing but not gloriously fantastic at all of it.

with my animations im definitely undercharging out the ass but thats because its a good way to get eyes on em i think

The twitter discussion made me question myself if I'm undercharging and I am.
Guess I will come back doing math later cuz I lowkey don't know how long my art takes ngl lol.
But it just hard set up price when your currency is lowkey trash and even the small price for american or weu is big af
October 31, 2026 at 7:57 AM
What also trash is that undercharging also comes from mentality of people that live where you are. When at one place everyone praise art and ready to pay too much even for smallest thing, at another it's always "why buy if I can take ss", " just do it for free, just for me", "too expensive, im gonna

Stop raising prices randomly. Test a 20% bump on new subs only for a week. If churn stays under 5%, you were undercharging. Dont announce it as a "price hike." Frame it as an upgrade to keep morale high. #monetization #creatorsupport #brandbuilding
October 29, 2026 at 2:08 PM
Does the price go up if there's attachment to the oc? Is it about the art?

Like are characters more valuable than I thought they were? I've only sold one oc for $15 so maybe I'm undercharging or something.
October 28, 2026 at 3:37 PM
I don't know how long these take you, but considering the lack of free time you have, I feel like these may be undercharging if anything

Staff witness: locational adder and 'shadow bill' needed to avoid undercharging large loads
Staff witness Steven Dahlke told the commission that a locational transmission adder (about $1.32 per kW‑month in staff analysis), annual true‑ups via a TLCA rider, and a 'shadow bill' are tools to correct potential shortfalls and align incentives for large loads.

Honestly at this point it's a vicious cycle. Editors work for less pay so publishers think they can underpay and they get away with it. I'm not sure what the solution to breaking this cycle is. But I get sad when I see broke editors massively undercharging when they are worth so much more.
October 29, 2026 at 11:14 PM
Perhaps you are undercharging them…
