#undergrads
It remains wild to me that this became global news, but I'm very proud to have helped facilitate this policy and think it will be enormously beneficial for undergrads at UChicago.

Opinion | Why these UChicago core classes are going analog
AI and laptops threaten to short-circuit our seminars. So we set some ground rules.

808 undergrads used GenAI to solve a problem. Higher trust in the AI went with more thoughtless use; stronger critical thinking went with more reflective, cautious use. Survey data, so association, not cause. Hou et al., BJET 2025.

This is one of the best things Ohio has done for undergrads,
the other is to make core classes equivalent across all state schools.

I think we need to re lower the drinking age to 18. Frats as places to access alcohol only exist because undergrads can't just buy alcohol from the liquor store.

UCL East gleaming high modernism, new academic year energy as undergrads arrive; Eternal October.

My undergrad school allowed frats but didn't permit the members to live together, which really reduced the influence of Greek life. (The school could enforce this policy bc it provided housing to almost all undergrads, doing this at a school where most students live off-campus would be much harder.)

Highlights from whirlwind trip to India 🇮🇳 with @universityofotago.bsky.social
We visited Kochi, Chennai, Kolkata & Delhi. Highlights included visiting Ashoka U & yarning with film scholars, presenting to undergrads at SRM Chennai & ofc the food! I hope to see many of the students I met in Otago!

I remember nations being afraid of famine, plague, and nuclear winter. But nations are so much greater now they can be afraid of some boys in vans, and undergrads chanting for peace.
Indeed do many things come to pass.

seems like he got hit pretty hard before he learned to pick his opponents.

i dont think you should denigrate a fighter, just bc he figured out he was at the lowest possible debate skill in his bracket.

once he figured out his weight class he did pretty good (losing to a group of 10 undergrads)

Truly I find this baffling. Like, how a woman in STEM could even write this. I watched how one professor taking advantage of at least two of his undergrads had sweeping repercussions not just for them but for his grad students, as well.
I'm thinking about this partly because of the Cornell news but also partly because of The Love Hypothesis, which is being pitched as a cute romance but is personally horrifying to read / watch as a woman in STEM. (I know the author is also a woman in STEM and honestly I don't get that at all.)

Gardony, Brunye, Mahoney & Taylor (2013) explored navigational aids on efficiency and spatial memory using virtual environments. 36 undergrads, video game environment. Navs: verbal, tonal, none.

Navs more efficient at start; less once used to env. Nav aids impaired spatial memory (2013: 339)

For undergrads, research can feel out of reach. That’s where the MATRIX-Uni program comes in.

MATRIX fellow, Soohwan Kim, a @UofIllinois junior, worked alongside #NSFMMLI researchers to advance #AI models for #biotechnology.

Hillsdale is like high school size - has an enrollment of ~1500 undergrads. Wow I’m feeling safer now 🤡

I like the implication that undergrads are children

Shhhh keep this undergrads until it's a done deal

I know that but 35% of Cornell undergrads report non consensual sex, that's 350 women out of 1000 raped! I don't think it's that high at every university.

I want to express pride for my little cousin. She just got her PhD from Cornell, she supported her lengthy education there w/adjunct teaching. She’s now a FT prof elsewhere. She raised an alarm on, & led several female undergrads, thru tough times w/a poorly behaved male prof there.

Princeton can also claim Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan, and MacKenzie Scott as undergrads. Please be fair and balanced, Jim. 🙂

Attended presentations from some undergrads. Audience member asked about any interesting side side stories they found while researching. One student said, "I had to use physical mail for the first time ever." Yes, I feel exceedingly old.

I’ve argued for some time that the power imbalance is worse for grad (PhD) students than undergrads for all the reasons you list here.

But a lot of unis limit fraternization rules to undergrads, because nearly every department has a prof married to a former student.

I've read SO many papers where the authors do this, but they're not measly undergrads lol. Can I get away with this endnote you think?
September 30, 2026 at 9:39 PM
i know i keep saying this, but at cornell 40% of undergrads live in these places. i have had a lot of 1-1 contact with 100s of them, and so many have told me they pledged because the university was so huge and alienating. a lot of them were really good people. but they needed friends

Repping one of my other alma maters today. Sometimes people want me to talk to the undergrads in this country and that’s fun lol

this is my pfp for my school email and one of our undergrads was like "i love how you look like a pokemon trainer in it" and i always love when people say this about my style of dress but it's interesting how people see a colorful outfit and equate it with fictional characters
