You’ll notice that at no point in this thread does this person ever attempt to refute anything that Layla’s actually saying; they instead, when confronted with actual facts as opposed to Brett McGurk’s fanfic, opt for vague hand-waves that try to dismiss all of this as hypothetical and unknowable.
I don't think this is a particularly accurate accounting of the history of the conflict or the U.S. involvement in it.
But I do think we'll likely see a different policy in the next Democratic administration. But I think the assumption that there will be more positive outcomes is not evidence-based

Honestly, “it’s an engineering problem” sounds a lot more responsible than pretending AI safety is some unknowable mystery. If there’s a problem, identify it, contain it, test solutions and fix it.

… they’re also arguing it doesn’t work, or work well, it won’t have a large societal impact, and it can’t be financially viable (or some subset of those things). Those positions are *much* less clear or defensible - not that they’ll all necessarily turn out to be wrong, but that they’re unknowable.

My position is that the administration determined that the best path for constraining Israel's response was to publicly support Netanyahu while privately trying to pressure him. My position is that it is unknowable whether another policy would have reduced suffering in Gaza or anywhere.
