#unpkg
So now the NZ Parliament website is trying to pull browser scripts from this third-party domain;

"UNPKG is a fast, global content delivery network for everything on npm."

https://unpkg.com/

npm is a software repository for JavaScript slop. A full accounting of its history would require a long […]

Twenty-four npm packages have turned unpkg mirrors into free hosting for fake Cloudflare CAPTCHAs. Because standard open-source dependencies were clearly not risky enough.

It seems twenty-four npm packages are merrily abusing unpkg mirrors to serve up ClickFix-style fake Cloudflare CAPTCHA pages, because why should package managers only deliver working code? Developers and end users alike are caught in this bizarre crossfire of free phishing infras...

Hackers abuse npm mirrors to host phishing redirect pages
Threat actors are abusing npm packages and mirrors like UNPKG and npmmirror to host malicious HTML pages that impersonate Cloudflare CAPTCHAs and redirect users to attacker-controlled destinations. The campaign uses legitimate infrastructure as free hosting for phishing pages, with some redirects pointing to Microsoft login themes, ChatGPT, or dynamically controlled URLs. #Cloudflare #npm #UNPKG #npmmirror #Turnstile

In generator.jspm.io, you can choose which CDN for it to use in the importmap, including unpkg and jsdelivr.
November 24, 2024 at 6:52 AM
Yeah, just ship plain JS modules, nothing Node-specific. Basically just ship only something you can run with plain HTML on localhost, and you’re good.

jsdelivr CDN is way faster than unpkg.

Try generator.jspm.io (which does read package exports) to generate importmaps (but still avoid exports).

unpkg.com had problems, the CDN we're using. Should be resolved by now, see github.com/unpkg/unpkg/...

TBF, this example is about not using unpkg in production.

JS on the server is no worse than Python or Ruby which are also dynamically typed and can randomly throw.

The client is more tricky, because we’ve never seen a real alternative.
Literally *just* came up for air after writing a reply thread about why JavaScript is a fragile choice for delivering the average website's HTML and immediately encountered a site that was nearly blank because some unpkg script URL happened to be down. 😵‍💫

Seriously, I'm not publishing this to Github, because you can just view source.

The only resources it downloads aside from the HTML come from Unpkg or are vendored NPM modules (for speed, loading from a CDN is slower).

The website is the source code.
