Homomolecular Photon Upconversion in a Perylene-Decorated Iron(III) Complex
Classical upconversion employs sensitizers and annihilators as two distinct molecular species and is, therefore, classified as heteromolecular. Homomolecular upconversion, the unification of both role...

Near-infrared spatiotemporal color vision in humans enabled by upconversion contact lenses
Based on the principle of refractive index matching, highly transparent upconversion contact lenses (UCLs) with a high concentration of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) were developed. These lenses ...

We have our 1st trade-off between TBS/TNT & Max:

Max is the cord cutter solution & seems like it has better video/sound quality (even if the 4K version is just an upconversion and the Atmos is virtualized, it looks REALLY good, maybe just higher bitrate?)

But...no PIP breaks on Max. #AEWDynamite

However, they also say the following...

"In certain example embodiments, the user may manually start the process of image upconversion as well"

Which to me sounds like "We might offer the option to upscale even when running on battery power, if the user opts into that reduced battery time".
