There's very few consumers who prefer downmarket products, which is why those products relentlessly compete on price instead. There's upmarket consumers and aspirationally upmarket consumers. bsky.app/profile/eluc...
It will (and already is starting) to become associated with very small down-market targeted business and I suspect it will rapidly become a major social fracture point, where wealthier people and their cultural aspirants will reject the style, while poorer people will prefer it.
the dream of AI for the bosses is that it will be a way to fire all designers and artists but it doesn't work. Not because of inherent qualities of the technology but because any low-cost/low-effort solution will quickly become tightly associated with "small businesses run by lazy dipshists"

If we define “2028 Presidential campaign book” as one published after the 2024 election, which the author knows will be read in the context of a potential 2028 Presidential run, I now count at least a dozen either out or due.

Long overdue for The Spectator's Islamophobia to come under the microscope. Excellent piece from Peter Oborne here doing just that.

It is now, he writes, just "an upmarket version of GB News" (same owner, of course)
Exposed: The Rabidly Islamophobic Magazine at the Heart of the British Establishment
For almost 200 years, 'The Spectator' stood for civilised, bravely heretical discourse. But a new report reveals how it now spews out anti-Muslim hatred week after week to its upmarket audience

Buying a publication with a mostly left wing readership and turning it right wing is a very old play - Rupert Murdoch did it with both the NY Post and The Sun - Bezos is just doing the same thing upmarket

Problem here is that we don't really name towns after people in England.

The few there are... Telford, Bury St Edmunds, Knutsford, all work... Elizabethtown risks sounding like an upmarket Stalingrad.
🚨 NEW: The proposed names the Government is considering calling its new towns

- Elizabethtown (after the Queen)
- Pankhurst (after suffragette Emmeline)
- Attleeton (after ex-PM)
- Athelstan (first King of England)
- Seacole (after nurse Mary)
