I think SV's historical development and how its capital creates itself can help explain this contradiction. SV traces its roots to military-backed hardware enterprises, and transpo/logistics was long a field seen for disruption. it grew up divorced from assimilating to classic urban elite capital
Serious question - why is Silicon Valley so hostile to its own workers’ means of transportation?
The finance industry in NYC would never come out against funding the subway and commuter rail there. Elite business groups like the Partnership for New York routinely come to the defense of MTA funding.

The Toronto election maps are really fascinating and tell an encouraging story of how urban development (even if it is high rises on specific corridors) is changing the nature of the cities elections. The urban/suburban lines are getting a bit blurred as development clusters continue to form

this fits the American pattern of population distribution and travel better, and it cuts down on the expense and opportunity cost of the yard (still distorting urban development in many places).
By making the largest urban core of the region functionally a standard stop at the center of a route rather than a terminating station, my trip patterns become easier to achieve for riders and operational needs are better suited for outlying areas with more room for yards, etc.
