Leo made the USCCB woke
INBOX: Archbishop Timothy P. Broglio, head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, is urging lawmakers to change the GOP-led “Big, Beautiful Bill” budget proposal, citing Pope Leo to argue that the bill “takes from the poor to give to the wealthy.”

It’s the strongest language USCCB has used yet

Trump sucks so bad he’s brought the USCCB onside against him. Genuinely an impressive level of sucking.
I've never been a Catholic Church fan, but they have been terrific about standing up to this regime.

They have a massive global audience, so it's important that they are speaking up.

It's always good to see priests who still remember there are *seven* Catholic social principles. Also, that noise you hear is the USCCB screeching to the Vatican and getting back nothing, lol
Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

surprisingly strong from the USCCB
INBOX: @usccbofficial.bsky.social, Catholic Health Association, and Catholic Charities issue a joint statement condemning the Trump administration’s revocation of the sensitive locations policy that discourages ICE raids as schools, churches and hospitals, calling it “contrary to the common good.”

I will note: In my experience, it is exceedingly rare for the USCCB to put out a statement this soon after a spontaneous, unplanned thing occurs.
NEW: Archbishop Paul Coakley, president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, responds to Trump’s post attacking Pope Leo.

Says he is “disheartened” and argues that Leo is “not a rival” but rather “the Vicar of Christ who speaks from the truth of the Gospel." www.usccb.org/news/2026/ar...

they’re losing the USCCB lol

Me: excommunicate! Excommunicate!

USCCB (grabbing the mic): EXCOMMUNICATE! EXCOMMUNICATE!
BREAKING: The U.S. bishops’ Committee on Doctrine just issued a formal statement defending Pope Leo XIV's teaching authority on just war doctrine — less than twelve hours after JD Vance told a Turning Point USA crowd the pope should “be careful” talking theology.

This is a serious escalation.

i saw a bunch of people on Facebook calling the fucking USCCB too woke on immigration
June 30, 2026 at 9:46 PM
TBH I'm mostly just shocked that St Pius X went full schism before USCCB did
July 2, 2026 at 5:53 AM
Vance is online enough to pick a fight with the USCCB and lose
January 30, 2025 at 2:09 AM
It’ll only be a matter of time before a Catholic priest gets taken and we’ll see if the USCCB can do anything besides a strongly worded letter. Then again when a Nigerian priest here killed himself over facing deportation I don’t think the Archdiocese said shit let alone the USCCB.
in Springfield Ohio right now. I’m told by multiple activists and religious leaders here that ICE took a second Haitian pastor

The USCCB mind is a fascinating thing to behold
1. BREAKING

The US Conference of Catholic Bishops has issued a statement admonishing the Trump administration’s immigration actions.

The last time they issued such a statement was in 2013 in response to contraception mandates.

Me: Schism! Schism!

USCCB: Schism! Schism!

Pope Francis: SCHISM! SCHISM!
January 8, 2025 at 10:31 PM
The USCCB? THAT USCCB!? How do conservatives fuck up so bad to lose an org that borderline wants a schism with Rome.

This is huge.
February 26, 2026 at 9:32 PM
But that's part of why "reining in the USCCB" was one of the top five issues facing the Catholic Church at the last conclave and why they chose Leo specifically (he knows all the USCCB players and where the bodies are buried, but is outside the actual fighting).
May 15, 2026 at 11:21 PM
Re-upping this in light of the USCCB lawsuit today. At some point the bishops should entertain canonical penalties for Catholics working in the administration
I absolutely believe that the Pope should excommunicate Vance and the other Catholics in the Musk/Trump junta carrying out its demonic agenda.
Since JD Vance et al are so insistent on dragging us back to the Middle Ages, maybe the Pope should take a leaf out of that era's playbook and excommunicate them all
February 19, 2025 at 1:54 AM
It's cool how this is how they lose one of the most useless and dangerous right-wing assholes in the USCCB
UPDATE: Bishop Paprocki of the Diocese of Springfield is now calling for Trump to apologize.

Making the USCCB even vaguely sane will have untold benefits for America.
May 31, 2025 at 1:17 AM
Leo is not a canon or civil lawyer. But the USCCB brief on birthright citizenship was written in a similar tone to his public statements.
Leo also knows how to use the regional clergy to express his wishes while he can remain in the background. Notice how much more active the USCCB has been since he became pope?
April 4, 2026 at 10:28 PM
I am only 35 minutes into watching this but the things he has been saying for the last five minutes are such a stinging rebuke to the entire USCCB that I am now even more certain that schism that's been brewing for a while will happen in the next decade
if you're interested in getting a sense of the new Pope's background, personality, etc, here's a sit-down Q&A he did about 9 months ago #PopeLeoXIV

Is it time for the USCCB to tell Catholics that they can not, in good conscience, work for ICE?
