btw, something of a side point, but if USD stablecoins automatically fail if the US dollar fails how can they be less likely to fail than the dollar?

Eurodollars. USD stablecoins are just eurodollars.
2/4/ One fun insight: About 80% of USD stablecoin flow happens outside the USA.

This joins the initial features we had in the first iteration of CDMD: comparisons of peg stability, reserve compositions, and market size of various projects through time.

Will Donald Trump get rich selling his private $$$ coins to EU residents? Probably not, but stablecoins may still uproot the global monetary order.

You can’t launch a massive global trade war and at the same time say that you’re going to make sure USD maintains reserve status via stablecoins???

Makes no sense!

trying to get on board with the 'loss of sovereignty' hype around stablecoins, but cannot.

what exactly would be the mechanisms for this supposed re-hegemonising of the USD?

Must read SUERF blog by Eric Monnet on a potential US strategy promoting USD stablecoins to maintain dollar supremacy, potentially increasing global dependence on the US dollar and weakening monetary sovereignty everywhere else

This is great work, especially in terms of emphasizing the risks of increased (de facto) dollarization through the proliferation of USD-backed stablecoins outside of the US.

for @europarl.europa.eu debating the digital euro: some of us worry that Trump will weaponise swap lines once more pliant Fed governor in office.

this is not the time to allow US Big Tech&Finance to further erode monetary sovereignty through USD stablecoins

rightwing European politicians, nationalist handwavers, will let it happen cause they hate state-issued digital currency

This by @dandavies.bsky.social and @himself.bsky.social covers the territory v well. I agree the US stablecoin push is making others develop alternatives. But I think that's because USD stablecoins are well placed to succeed - offshore dollar banking and securities thrive despite no USG backing.

stablecoins are either the future of digital finance (say crypto bros) or, more accurately, a scam for crypto speculation that benefits stablecoin issuers.

World Liberty Financial (Trump fam) issued USD 2.7bn USD1 stablecoins.

USD1 holders gave Trump free dollars, which WLF invests at around 5%.
