#useTransition
Why does React’s useTransition spinner sometimes flash briefly? Learn how React’s scheduler prioritizes updates to keep your UI responsive and when useTransition really helps. #React #useTransition #ConcurrentMode #Frontend #JavaScript https://blog.mspk.me/posts/understanding-react-s-usetransition-m

curious how component libraries that don’t have primitives for concurrent rendering (like useTransition, useDeferredValue, Suspense) will approach declarative ViewTransitions.

how do you express in code that you want some state updates to be long-running and async, but others can interrupt them?

🔄 React Hooks Faceoff: useTransition vs useActionState

🚀 useTransition: Defer UI updates
🧠 useActionState: Handle async form actions

✅ When to use?
useTransition → smooth UI
useActionState → async forms

Which one do you use more? 👇

I cover Async @react.dev primitives like useTransition, useOptimistic, Suspense, and use() and how they simplify async coordination. React and its ecosystem are evolving for reliable async and a declarative DX. Loved writing this for @logrocket.bsky.social.

How I handled React state over 10 years:

2014: Class state
2016: Redux
2018: useState, useReducer, useContext
2020: React query
2021: Zustand for globals
2024: useOptimistic, useTransition, useFormStatus, useActionState, RSC
2025: Tanstack DB or sync engine (Zero, Electric, Convex)

Hmmm, maybe depends on your definition. useContext, useTransition, onCleanup, onMount — these all feel "hooks-style" to me.

I'm still exploring React 19 Actions! Here's a blog post about building reusable components with Actions, utilizing useTransition() and useOptimistic(), and exposing an action property callable by parent components.

Building Reusable Components with React 19 Actions | Aurora Scharff
In this blog post, we will explore how to build reusable components with React 19 Actions, track transition states, use optimistic updates, and expose action properties for custom logic.

The Async React design layer in practice.

Components handle async coordination and UI internally:
• Pending states via useTransition
• Optimistic updates via useOptimistic

Learn how to build reusable design components that expose action props and internally manage optimistic updates, loading states, and automatic rollback, so consumers just pass a value and an action.

The new features in React 19 and the latest hooks are worth exploring. I particularly like useTransition for handling the pending state of requests. It’s so clean, it’s a pleasure to read the code #ReactJS #JavaScript

With React transitions and actions, finding myself doing this pattern a bunch (where one of the two awaited fns is maybe a server action). Feels so wrong at first but then so right how all of the pieces compose together

I'm prototyping a TUI inspired bookmarks tool for my website.

It uses React's useOptimistic and useTransition hooks to create instant-feeling database updates.

Also experimenting with a single monospace font size and using "ch" and "rem" units for character-based UI spacing.

Ah yeah in React the isPending for useTransition is scoped to the startTransition called from the same hook.

O react conseguiu interromper um render pra priorizar um outro, aí tem o useTransition e useDwferred que ativa em mais casos

Day 72 / 100

I'm learning React JS & Next JS. Here's what I covered today:

✅ continued working on "The Wild Oasis" website
✅ build guest's reservation page
✅ deleting a reservation
✅ cache revalidation
✅ useTransition hook

i think the question about the value of concurrency is still up for debate. i expect it will clear up in the next few years as a more code adopts <Suspense>, useTransition (directly or via transition-based routers like App Router). with 19 out, you’d also encounter it via Actions and useOptimistic

Yeah I can pair to investigate why this doesn’t work, I was looking at it with tanner the other day. But the user can get the pending state either by wrapping with useTransition (because startTransition composes) or adding an optimistic update.

I feel Solid wouldn't be too different for end user code as it has useTransition. Svelte would be different as it kinda does something transition-like by default
