#useful
Tbh, I go back and forth on that view, both as a description of reality and as kind of useful political rhetoric (it can be the latter even if it isn't the former.)

Sweet potato is rated "excellent" for gut-loading feeder insects. High in beta-carotene and a useful moisture source that keeps feeders active until offered.

They haven't existed to help people to actually get a job for soooo long now. They used to be useful. In the 90s I got my first job in journalism from a job centre. But today they exist to intimidate people, to make them feel guilty for being there. Others may have experienced different.

Just because they are worth a trillion dollars does mean they are ‘useful’ :)

(Although if someone wants to fund my pension fund in exchange for my data, you know where to find me)

Operation Useful Idiot is working swimmingly. Has the Doomsday Clock reached 11:59:45, 46, 47…yet?

i should mention that ultand's patch up is especially useful to have in dungeons so i think that alone give her some special utility.

one thing about making a Django site is that dealing with these residential proxy scrapers is tough. It’s definitely easier to handle with a Go server that’s faster or a static site. The site doesn’t even have anything useful to scrape!

I don’t really want to use Anubis since it’s a bit […]

i believe it is more useful and productive to think of this as extremely human behavior

I did the same last night. I fell asleep and then woke up discombobulated. It is always useful to have something ready to go in that situation. However, by bed time, I am usually too tired to focus properly. Mistakes creep in.

Spellcheck is useful apart from its determination to keep reverting to US English, but I just keep grammar check turned off. Predictive typing was amazing about 4 years ago and I swear is now rapidly deteriorating.

A useful ritual: Why authoritarian regimes still need elections — and why Russia’s model is weakening

Putin’s Russia retains elections as a source of political legitimacy, but growing rigidity may soon make voting a liability for the system itself.
A useful ritual: Why authoritarian regimes still need elections — and why Russia’s model is weakening
From Sept. 18 to 20, Russia held its first State Duma elections since the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The official results — nearly 58% in…

I've got one of those earwax scrapers with a wifi camera built into it. I was pleased to learn that the eardrum is quite a lot deeper than I'd imagined. Any cotton bud explorations would have gone nowhere near.

(quite cheap, and useful for purposes other than ears too. No not like that.)

I used Claude for search yesterday - the cartoon is accurate.

It's useful for searches that cannot easily be done with keywords. It returns useful information, after several iterations, with many errors.

I can't think of anything useful they can be trusted to do. Maybe we can put them in a zoo? Or send them to Mars?
October 1, 2026 at 1:50 PM
But the amount that people bias towards useful->should furthers my point that utility, not just use, is involved, regardless of how rigorous I try to explain myself anyway lmfao

A useful question for every marketing tool you pay for: who used it last month, and what decision did it change? If nobody can answer, it is a candidate to cancel.

Candidate tests would be more useful.

Just saying: they are certainly acknowledged when its useful, they are certainly indulged when its expedient. They arent loathed; they are useful, and have been since the SDP split. They are seen as legitimate in a way that Labour was not when it moved to the left of Tony Blair.

All data are useful, we just haven’t found the use for some of it. Whackaloons took everyone’s Reddit sh*t posts and built trillion dollar chatbots out of them. All data are useful.

Even the use->useful, I genuinely think is not so clear in most contexts any lay person is ever fucking talking. There's a blatantly and clear underlying inclusion of utility, not just use, by which I mean a much more collective vs individualist concern as well. It's kinda obvious to me most times.
