#user-adoption
they are trying so hard to cook the ai user numbers data to help force adoption at any cost.

I think it's under-appreciated how much user-hostile recipe sites and news articles smothered in pop-ups and video ads have negatively polarized the average normie against the open web, and helped to drive adoption of AI as an alternative way to get basic information

Since I have a bunch of other witches up for adoption I figured its time to put this one back up. (fake user won last time)

global adoption of linux gets pushed back by 6 years every time a Linux Guy starts talking at me like max headroom

I'd suggest that Bluesky is more popular than Mastodon because the latter makes decentralisation a user problem, in a way that hinders adoption.

When I was going through fertility treatment I did briefly explore adoption. What I found was that 1. Private adoption is expensive, 2. Adoption from foster care is mostly of older children, and 3. Children who were available for adoption from foster care overwhelmingly had needs I could not meet.

Mike’s “Protocols, Not Platforms” paper actually inspired Twitter to start bluesky.

There’s a lot of work ahead, but this is what we’re trying to do: to get open protocol adoption for social by building something fundamentally better, in service to the user.

This is what happens when you have user adoption metrics to justify your job for a product no one really wants.

At the current adoption rate, Bluesky’s user base (currently 33 million) is growing by approximately 1 user per second. If that rate were to hold firm, Bluesky would hit 53 million users by December 2025. And by December 2026, Bluesky will have surpassed 84 million users. 👀

it's sort of a wild thing to watch play out, because the speed of adoption is make or break for the companies working on these tools, which the news-savvy user is aware of *while they are being pushed by employers to use them*
Time they're not being given _for no real reason_, is the thing. Let the tools percolate and improve and people will adopt them as use cases become clear? No, cannot, must deploy everywhere all the time for no obvious reason with no brakes and ignore all concerns.
it's true that a lot of fields of work are going to be changed dramatically by these tools, rapidly, and professionals should probably be aware of how and why. but it's also true that people need time to chew this stuff over, practice and think about it, time they're not being given.

kde needs to expand its branding outside of just software. i suggest we start with produce. we need kogurt, kheese, frozen kizza, vegekables, etc. this is how we will get mass user adoption
February 4, 2026 at 10:26 PM
The more folks resist becoming AI users, the harder companies are going to try to scale adoption by making the tech unavoidable. In other words, to scale their user base by coercion. We already saw this dynamic in 2024. I think we’re going to see it 10x in 2025.

It's still too user-unfriendly for mass adoption. Which, come to think of it, might be by design.

Starlink heavily discounted to boost subscriber count ahead of the IPO, causing a 23% decline in revenue per user, and the S-1 doesn't mention user retention. SpaceX wants to grow via satellite-to-mobile; they have no agreements with handset manufacturers that would make such possible.

MICROSOFT: Hey we added Copilot to that thing you use all the time. Isn’t that great?

ME: It isn’t!

MICROSOFT: So when are you gonna use it?

ME: Never. On purpose anyway. Maybe I’ll click the Copilot button by accident

MICROSOFT: I’m counting that as user adoption. Copilot is *killing it*

I completely agree with this because while I understand that brand account and ads are annoying, it’s a very good sign of growth for the platform

There’s a massive active user base now. I get more traction here than Twitter and Instagram. It’s a good thing to get mainstream adoption
We need to bully brands into posting here. That will make it easier for folks to transition. Its annoying not being able to comment on the new trailer for whatever here. Twitter does still feel like the place info hits first.

Considering the vast majority of AI adoption so far has been deceptive, hidden, and without user consent, and the clear financial interests involved, I would be surprised if they DIDN'T pull a trick like this.
