Discord cooked what little user trust it had left
Oops. Turns out Persona, Discord’s age-verification service, was secretly screening selfies against government watchlists AND accessible by the feds. It's backed by Peter Thiel.

“The state wants to see everything. The corporations want to see everything. And they've learned to work together.”
Hackers Expose Age-Verification Software Powering Surveillance Web
Three hacktivists tried to find a workaround to Discord’s age-verification software. Instead, they found its frontend exposed to the open internet.

Doctors say that vaccines do not cause autism. X-user @cryptomaga1488 says that they do. For busy parents, it can be hard to know who to trust.

this is fine right? when the head of trust and safety on a website you frequent is personally blocking you? i sure hope i'll never need any trust or safety or anything like that 🤔

It’s a crazy world out there, and when Instagram user KingdomCome1488 and the American Academy of Pediatrics disagree, it can be difficult for busy parents to know who to trust

might violate user trust but goal.

"Meta bet that threading the political needle and protecting its brand from controversy would help Threads grow safely, but instead it alienated the very users it needed most. Meta sent a clear message from the start: user input came second."

absolutely correct. Meta ignored us ... so we left.
Hanging by a Thread
Meta’s decisions at the once promising “Twitter killer” serve as a cautionary tale about the risks of prioritizing corporate interests and political appeasement over user trust.

Bluesky: All your posts are public! All your likes are public! All your blocks are public!

User: OK, here's some stuff the head of Trust & Safety liked

Bluesky: > : (
a bot created on atproto using entirely public data to repost the likes of the head of bluesky trust and safety caught him liking porn, so he permabanned the developer lol

The Drug Enforcement Agency says almost none of America's fentanyl comes from Canada. But Truth Social user @bloodandsoil1488 says thousands of pounds cross the border each week. For busy presidents of the United States, it can be hard to know who to trust.

The ban policies were heavy handed and you lost a lot of trust in the user base here because you gave into right wing hysteria and manipulation that wants to make your users less safe.

I would trust China with TikTok user data than Musk. Who's the bigger threat here, honestly?

But banning a trans user for making a bot with public information shatters that neutrality. It shows the rules aren’t being applied fairly or consistently, and Trust and Safety has lost the higher ground of enforcing the terms of service without bias.
December 20, 2024 at 9:46 AM
So the bluesky head of trust and safety saw that a trans user created a bot to track his activity and it caught him liking a porn scraper bot. He then banned the her and banned the bot. This is some moderators madness level idiocy.
Okay I'm going to sleep now, but for the folks asleep now, or just waking up;
I got banned! I appealed and was denied! And yet here I am! Posting from my silly account.
My aaron tracking bot got banned though, Cause aaron liked a porn scraper bot and didn't like that it was public.
Anyway, im alive🥰

This strikes me as another really good reason to not trust Meta’s numbers on the supposed Threads user base.
It's also impossible to delete one's Threads account without also deleting one's Instagram account, apparently.

Yep, any user trust you lose only makes your Shadow IT problem worse
At an old job, when it became known that everything being said in Teams (even in DMs) was being surveilled by management and HR the upshot was that a huge chunk of employee communications moved to people texting each other on their personal phones!

Surely this won’t impact user trust negatively.

the head of trust & safety should not be a user-facing role btw
October 6, 2025 at 8:58 PM
do you understand how doing so made people doubt the head of trust and safety, especially given your pedigree and the fact the scrutiny was due to previous failure, and the fact you went on a zero-accountability ban spree of marginalized people afterward tanked user trust & safety on this site?
October 6, 2025 at 8:28 PM
Underlying the assumptions, though, are thousands of implicit trust relationships. Imagine needing to carefully close read and understand every End User License Agreement before you clicked “I Agree”. You simply do not have the time or expertise.
