I've never bought into that rivalry because in the 90s I was both the nerd AND the theatre kid. Me and my friends literally used the theatre class to play D&D, Paranoia and V:tM. We also played M:tG cards.
the thing about "theatre kids irrupting into nerd spaces" is that, regardless how you feel about it, there was only one way it was gonna end because nerds are, generally, a very passive, self satisfied and lazy bunch and theatre kids are some of the most driven psychos out there

You see why I keep coming back to the paths mechanic from V:tM?

Digo e repito: mesa de V:tM mira em Anne Rice mas acerta em WWDITS

Was boutta make a joke before I went to check and learned that V:TM-B2 did actually come out instead of being stuck in dev hell

"Jyhad" was what got me into TCGs (because I loved V:TM). So, it's indirectly responsible for my travel to several continents and some of my best friends to this day

Have the vampires in V:TM ever just thought of asking Caine nicely for a cup of blood?

Speaking of V:TM, my husband has loose plans to run a one-shot where we're all vampires on the Titanic and I literally cannot wait for this to come to fruition

I came into the hobby with HERO, V:tM and a pamphlet about Trinity, so im a weird outlier. Didn't play actual D&D until like 5 years later.

So far, the writing is fantastic. Descriptive without being flowery, just the right level of humor to make the world feel real, lived in. My favorite dialogue choice was when I found some folks playing V:tM in a diner and had the opportunity to tell them I don’t like vampire RPGs.

I think it depends who is writing your V:TM. Like it is the guy who writes a stop sign talking or is it someone who reads hard sci fi etc

Oh, I agree. Nighthawks is as much comedy as horror. I don't think you'll find many vampires in V:TM doing stuff like having prank wars or having arguments over the rules of Cluedo, or attending burlesque shows with names like "The Master and Margaritas" and "Murder, She Committed".

Definitely moreso. A fairly fundamental rule I worked with was "There's no point just trying to do V:TM with the serial numbers filed off because V:TM will always V:TM better than you." So I very much tried to go in another direction. Act I is closest, mostly to highlight the differences later.

More complex characters might have a bit more detail. Maybe 4 or 5 dice pools which are likely to come up.

Key NPCs who you're expecting the PCs to interact with a lot might have full on stat blocks. V:tM tends towards having NPC interactions driving play rather than location based adventures.

I've been running V:tM 5th lately. That has a bunch of options.

Generic NPCs like the heavies you fight probably have "physical: 3, hit with stick: 4" and a default "5 health". The receptionist you try to lie your way past might have "social: 3, admin 5".

Nighthawks has more extravagant production values. And by necessity it uses a staccato rhythm - which I find endlessly fascinating & fits the mood perfectly - to tell substantial stories. But from what I've played so far it's easily up there with V:TM - Nigh Road.

Also with less title punctuation.

I don't know much about V:tM so here's my husband's assignments of clans to our OCs..

His OCs..

Sylvia - TRUE Brujah
Vox - Gangrel, Malkavien, Gargoyle or Blood Brother

My OCs..

Khei - Gangrel or Brujah
Fyllo - Salubri-Antitribu
Leona - Caitiff
R'asha - Brujah
Tyberius - Toreador
What's your OC's VTM clan? Jae's a pure Toreador 🥀

I have a joke about V:TM but it's obfuscated.
I have a joke about Neon Odyssey, but it won't be delivered for another year.
I have a joke about Pathfinder, but it’s complicated.

Boobs! I mean... mommy 😳

Finally out of my system. One of my oldest OCs, rehabilitated as a 40K inquisitor XD
Her name's Rahel Aislin O'Hara.
She's a cruel, sadistic bitch.
She used to be my very first TTRPG character, I played in V:tM.
More about her later. I'm in a hurry.

I really lucked out with Night Road because it's hard to write V:TM romances (since the characters are corpses) but "two hot guys bicker" is apparently enough for a lot of players.

Official published V:tM art by Joshua Gabriel Timbrook.

NGL, none of the other White Wolf source books ever went as hard as V:TM 1e
September 16, 2026 at 3:38 PM
It’s official— I turned my Malkavain into a Garou. There is a wolf Claribel.

I love W:TA way more than V:TM.

So, my self publishing sales on Storyteller's Vault are WAY down this month. I'm guessing this has to do with the announcement of 6th edition of V:tM.

I might just keep publishing By Night city books though. They're just a lot of fun to work on.
