Mentioned this before but love talking about it!

Zhyk: purple hyacinths (sorrow, regret, forgiveness) and a single white calla lily (funerals, devotion, resurrection, life).

Vachir: black prince snapdragons (strength, grace, protection, deception) and roses (elegance, passion)

Zhyk: His own two feet. Sometimes a chocobo porter when he feels like spending the coin or whatever ride his work supplies, such as a break in the back of a merchant's cart.

Vachir: Once it was a large stallion. These days it's usually aetherytes, walking, and carriages.

#AutumnRepost Day 13: Written

When I created Vachir, he became not only a beloved mentor but a cherished friend. He also became literate after 40 years due to said friend & I love some of his first written words to them.

His fingertips traced beneath Tigerlily’s handwriting and gradually he read the message left so long ago. “To my employer, my teacher, my friend. This may weigh heavy in your hands, but we can share it together.” His tail wagged slow and steady behind him, content. He picked up his quill and dipped the nub in ink. A careful hand scrawled a message in return, one to be shown to certain eyes only when the time was right. To my employee, my student, my friend. The burden is heavy indeed, but you have made it all the lighter. For what is thunder without a storm? - Vachir

Laughter spills from the group and Tiger's horn picks out one in particular—the thunderous, yet warm guffaw of his employer. Even now Vachir sits a good two or three fulms above present company, the au ra distinct in his bulk. It makes it easy to note the easy-going smile on his face; the familiar crinkle at the corners of his eyes and the peek of a sharp fang. It also makes it easy to see as Vachir glances aside and discerns Tiger's location, a flicker of curiosity darting across his angular features. To his present company Vachir speaks and Tiger infers it to be a pardon for his impeding absence—pray, a moment whilst I see to my assistant—which is confirmed seconds later as Vachir rises.

"I asked a handsome, capable man to help me. Of course he would listen." Vachir's eyebrow lifted. "Tigerlily does not seem the sort." Delicate laughter trickled from Shigeyasu as he turned to set the teapot down. "He is your employee. I spoke your name and set him to task. Ambitious it seems." He straightened the sleeve of his kimono before kneeling comfortably across from Vachir on a cushion at the low table. "Or driven by a desire to impress his employer, perhaps? Conduct unforgotten, forever a thought in your mind?"

I tried to convince them otherwise. He shakes the thought from his mind; he has no time to dwell on such things. The dread creeping along his spine will have to wait until he's found time alone, when he can lament the breaking of vows and curse the "blessing" so cast upon him. The sounds of battle filter toward him faintly. Steel clashing against steel, the crackle of lightning, a growled shout he knows is Tiger's.

Vachir had always wondered what talent he possessed. He could not weave artistic delights nor sing like the birds overhead nor keep a melody, however simple, on the morin khuur. He was prone to frustration, short-tempered and rash, storming away from what he could not accomplish as easily as his brother. Only as he grew older did he regret how desperately he clung to the idea of innate talent, how much he longed to be skilled in something, anything.

Vachir took several paces back, putting space between them. He waited until Tiger's breathing evened out, then lowered into a defensive stance. "Again," he commanded, beckoning with a tilt of his horn. "We train until dusk." As Tiger shifted his weight and studied his mentor's form, Vachir couldn't help but feel a burgeoning joy in their shared comradery.

Vachir sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, squeezing his eyes closed. He could still see an echo of the tome before him, pale yellow parchment covered in lines of sprawling script. The leather bindings of the book were older, the cover frayed around the edges. The librarian had expressed he take the utmost care while borrowing it and Vachir had sworn his due diligence—the book would not leave his apartment unless it was being returned to the library itself. He had also sworn to read every word upon those pages before it was time to return it, yet here he was with a headache brewing behind his eyes.

Vachir approached his guest but lingered at the threshold of the shoji partitions, regarding the young man with a curious gaze. A small woven bowl sat beside the miqo'te, a deep violet tail curled protectively around it. Several strawberries lay within, yet untouched despite Vachir knowing of his guest's oft rumbling stomach. The boy held a sketchbook in his lap angled against one arm as he shaded the edges of a flower petal with a nub of charcoal. Clenched carefully between his teeth was one of the fruits, not forgotten or ignored, but kept as a prize for when his concentration waned. Without making a sound, Vachir rested his hand on the partition frame and leaned forward, vibrant golden and crimson eyes tracing the lines of the drawing, then looked toward the plant the young man was so focused on. "…s'a honeysuckle."

He cannot create in the same manner as his brother. He has little patience for music, little sense for paints, little grace for crafts. Brutish and bullying—that was how his peers saw him these days and he leaned into it. Someone had to protect the tribe. If he could not create, he could destroy.

Both Zhyk & Vachir have complicated feelings about the maternal figures in their lives.
#zhyklore #vachlore #stygwrites
And how do they know? Zhyk's stance is stiff, the very air rippling with tension. He wars with himself—do they know her, where is she, has she been well, is she safe?—but he asks nothing of the sort. His throat feels too tight for words let alone the breath his lungs desperately crave. Why would he seek the clan that abandoned him? Why would he care of his connection to that brusque, bull-headed woman? Why would he desire the approval he never earned as a child? Why did his chest hurt like an iron band clamped tight around it? I wouldn't know, he claims, and even he can see lie for what it is. (He was always a mama's boy, wasn't he?) Vachir laughs. Which mother do they speak of? The one he has never met, his eyes scouring the distant grasslands for a glimpse of tribe he's never spoken with, wondering if he'd be able to tell her by sight alone. Does he look like her with raven hair and golden eyes? Are her features as angular as his own? Does he wear her smile? Does his nose slope the same as hers? Do her scales bear a similar iridescent shine? Or do they speak of the mother who raised him, the one he dares not cross paths with again? The one who makes his heart ache, her son a failure in all manner of the word. He cannot compare to her deft hands and precise steps, her straightforward speech and keen hearing. And so he laughs, his mouth wide and his eyes warm, an expression trained through years of hardship. It's kind of them to say, but he fears he is far more like his father.

Zhyk doesn't know anything about dance. However, his version of the Echo is more like mimicry! If he's shown how to dance he can start to mimic the motions until it becomes some semblance of dance.

Vachir knows how to waltz due to several patrons in Ishgard, but that's about it! #zhyklore #vachlore
