Possibly, although I grew up before the varicella vaccine was widely available, so I had c-pox twice. Which I guess makes me a shingles candidate.

Because we get varicella vacine and not many people have dormant virus from having had chickenpox? (That's my guess)

In November my husband started to have terrible migraines. He lost most of the vision in one eye due to reactivation of varicella (chicken pox virus) on his optic nerve. This caused necrosis of the retina. The treatments available are antivirals and steroids, so brand new therapies would be great!

My mom, an impeccable record-keeper, swore that I was her only child who never had chicken pox. So I rcvd one varicella vax around the time of my first pregnancy (before the rec changed to 2 doses). Should I get the shingles vax? I am in the age range. My PCP seems uncertain. Thank you!

For that reason, we generally do NOT recommend checking varicella titers after completing the 2-dose vaccine series. Documentation of two doses is considered evidence of immunity and supersedes a subsequent negative blood test.

You may not actually be a poor responder. This is a quirk of chickenpox immunity testing that causes a lot of confusion. The commercially available varicella IgG tests are good at detecting immunity after natural chickenpox infection,
