Bike safety is so important, so it was great to see the Ottawa Police Service handing out bike helmets and Velofix doing bike tuneups at the Bayshore Bike Rodeo. Also pizza and fun activities on hand. Thanks PQCHC for organizing this great event!

Not a great way to start the day, but I chewed out the driver of this Velofix van for parking on the sidewalk, bending back one of the major branches on my tree, and potentially damaging my tree box.
These mobile bike repair services are ridiculous. Just go to your local bike shop. 🤬

Does anyone have a go-to, reliable and affordable shop for cargo e-bike maintenance in Brooklyn? I’ve had so many awful experiences over the past five years. VeloFix is the best (and conveniently mobile!) service but can pricey, especially for small jobs.

Sent an email to Velofix to at check on the franchise process, but they say they don't have any openings. Sent back an email asking for clarification as the one here is closed. May come to naught, and may not have a shot in hell with no seed capital, but asking costs nothing.🤞

I actually used VeloFix mobile for my last major tune-up on 2 bikes. There's another one called Hamer's Cycle Service in the west metro.

Backcountry acquires Velofix
US multichannel retailer Backcountry announced this week that it has acquired mobile-service company Velofix. The acquisition means Backcountry, which owns e-commerce retailers Competitive Cyclist and BikeTiresDirect, now has a significant service arm for its online sales. Velofix operates nearly 100 mobile service vans in North America, roughly two-thirds of them owned and the rest franchised to independent operators.
Speaking to Bicycle Retailer and Industry News, Backcountry president Kevin Lenau said the company will continue working with both owned and franchise operators. Lenau said Velofix will initially offer at-home assembly of bikes sold through its online channels but will eventually expand to include delivery of fully assembled bikes, as well as continue its suite of other services. Lenau does not envision Velofix expanding its retail offerings beyond the current range of consumable parts like chains, tires and brake pads.
Other aspects of how the business will change are to be determined. Currently, Velofix has an agreement with direct-to-consumer brand Canyon – a Backcountry competitor – but Lenau expressed interest in continuing that relationship. Canyon has not commented. The acquisition is the latest for Backcountry, which acquired Competitive Cyclist in 2011 and closed its acquisition of BikeTiresDirect's parent company, Velotech, last year.
