The best one was reseeded with a locally sourced neutral grassland mix, so lots of Bird's-foot Trefoil, Knapweed and Vetches. I suppose the commercial mixes could be a 'gateway drug' to proper grassland.

The pollinators are having a party in our eight meadows in these hot summer days. Today our skilled volunteers surveyed Bell’s Meadow. Ever wanted to improve your plant ID? The best way is to get outside with a bunch of lovely people who know their bush vetches from their common vetches.

Did the first round of mowing of the year, I always mow in patches. Tall grass with no flowers. Had to mow around a lot of buttercups, daisies, blue bugle, bush vetches and shockingly beautiful columbines 🌱

Helped my dad sow a wildflower meadow this year and he's just told me he's piled up all the leaves on it. PSA from your friendly local ecologist: if you have a wildflower meadow don't fertilise it chemically or with compost/leaves. Treat it mean to keep it diverse!

I really loved the way crown vetches flowers looked last year but after seeing how quickly and far it spread this year I will never see them again in my yard. Every time I see it I remove it now. Considering the seeds can be in the soil for 15 years I will be removing it for awhile. 🌱 #gardening

As a child, I was given a Wildflower book published by Octopus. I loved that book. My eye was caught by the Vetch page and I remember my delight at finding my first one and ticking the page. Since then the Vetches have always had a place in my heart. Just beautiful. 💜
