Swedish Coastguard seem to have "advised" cable sabotage suspect VEZHEN to steer towards Sweden.

Special prosecutor Mats Ljungqvist has released the ship VEZHEN from her arrest after an investigation has found no indications of sabotage of comms cable Jan 26

VEZHEN is the ship responsible for the damages, but the causes are bad equipment, poor seamanship and weather according to the prosecutor
Cable sabotage suspect VEHZEN dropped her anchor as she was exiting Gulf of Finland.

After traveling 304 km or 21 hours with the anchor bouncing on the bottom of Baltic Sea she severed the comms cable LVRTC SE-LV.

In her track was SILVER DANIA and they joined at the crime.

Story from their AISs.

Cargo ship VEZHEN did Friday’s ”new damage” to submarine cable C-LION 1 Jan 26, not last Friday.

Same time as all her other ”accidents”.
Cinia in an updated statement:

"The damage to Cinia's C-Lion1 submarine cable is suspected to have occurred on Sunday 26 January 2025 at 02:37 (EET)"

AIS-data does not show any explanation as far as I can see.

The closest to anything suspicious I find is previous cable destroyer VEZHEN passing through (likely unrelated).

@vesselspotter.eurosky.social spot anything?

The Irish Navy did not send one naval vessel to VEZHEN after the drone sightings, but TWO ships. Obviously the irish had quite high proof or suspicions about VEZHEN being used as a base for the drones.

Now KBV 33 is by VEZHEN and VEZHEN has changed course slightly north.

⚡️ Swedish Coast Guard detains vessel suspected of sabotage in Baltic Sea.

According to information obtained by the AP from a ship-tracker software, the Malta-flagged Vezhen departed from the Russian port of Ust-Luga several days earlier and was navigating near the site of damage.

Swedish authorities seized the vessel suspected of damaging the cable in the Baltic Sea.

Prosecutors of Sweden opened a preliminary investigation and ordered the detention of the vessel. Reportedly, the vessel is Vezhen, a ship under the flag of Malta.

The manager of sabotage cable suspect VEZHEN has blamed ”hydrometerological” conditions for V losing her anchor and dragging it for approximately 300-400 km.

The worst wind seen was 29 knots. Highest wave 2.6m. Generally much calmer.

Here is all open ship traffic as seen by Marinetraffic at the time of cable breakage: VEZHEN, SILVER DANIA and FINNLADY.

Only VEZHEN has speed dynamics indicating anchor sabotage.

Looks like Swedish coast guard has a catch. VEZHEN being escorted by KBV 033 toward Karlskrona. @auonsson.bsky.social identified VEZHEN as the most likely candidate for Sweden - Latvia cable breach.
Would guess Swedes want to replicate the Finnish helicopter landing on VEZHEN. Live on Marinetraffic

/1. Swedish authorities boarded a Maltese-flagged ship “Vezhen” seized in connection with the latest breach of cables running along the bottom of the Baltic Sea to begin an investigation.

On the published photo of a seized ship a heavily damaged anchor is visible.

Actually, VEZHEN has been in Sweden for hours.

Grey line is 12 mile territorial limit.

This makes everything a lot easier legally. So, THIS is the diversion? Too easy! =)

Swedish Coast Guard is investigated the exact spot and area where "accidental" cable ripper ship VEZHEN passed a month ago.

This is likely the explanation to yesterday's "new" cable damage.

If this was discovered last days, I wonder how thorough the Swedish investigation was.

Meanwhile, as most eyes are on Vezhen (now near Karlskrona), PSKOV as another suspect (AIS was off while it went over the cable) is being escorted by 3 military ships from Finland and Estonia.

VEZHEN, 2 year old ship in a photo from 2015. Look how shiny she is!

With this I will leave conclusions and coming investigation for others and enjoy my sunday. =)

Kaapelisabotaasista epäilty Vezhen seilaa Ruotsin vesillä Ruotsin rannikkovartioston saattamana.

Olisiko ajatus seilata Karlskronan satamaan tarkempiin tutkimuksiin?

Just on Marinetraffic: Swedish KBV 033 has intercepted VEZHEN which @auonsson.bsky.social identified as the most likely candidate for the sabotage. Seems like VEZHEN has changed course more to Swedish territorial waters.
