I am happy to report that I was wrong. The Magnetar plays VideoCDs!
#physicalmedia It also looks pretty awful blown up to 4k on a 77-inch television. 😂

So... I don't know if you remember #videocd. It was a physical format for movies about the same time as VHS and Laserdisc. It was predominantly popular in Asia (not Japan though) and most DVD players can play the format. I thought bluray players could too so imagine my surprise when I won an […]

A #saturn with VideoCD logo on it and also the mpeg card still in it. Quite yellowed though. I convinced my friend not to buy it (he already has one). A cheap and cool #pokemon toaster and an old arcade joystick. If this was back home I would have gotten them both (and a saxophone!).

I have Queen's Great Hits 1 & 2 on VideoCD which I bought when I realised that my new (and first) PC's graphics card came with VideoCD software.
I also have two CD Videos*, which I've never been able to play as they needed a fancy player though some LaserDisc machines could play them.

Amazing.
I have a videoCD (VCD) of this.
Bought it in a second hand shop thinking it was the regular cd single.
Judging by the price I paid, so did they.
I've never managed to play it and I imagine after all these years it would be trash now.

About dot com memories: I wrote things for that around 2002(?)
My favorite was an illustrated guide to make a double-gatefold CD sleeve from a piece of 8.5x11" paper, which I invented because I was putting short films on VideoCD-Rs but couldn't afford jewel cases.
I found it in my digital archive:

3DO modded with ode and usb socket inside side expansion door. Had to remove the videoCD expansion connector to gain room. Also connected the open close button to become the disk swap switch.

Oh blimey, I used to have a videocd of that. Am I remembering correctly there's a scene at a detective's desk and you know it's a proper detective desk because it has a blue police light on it, swirling away? Or was that another terrible piece of schlock?

True.

That's amazing. I remember I bought an MPEG card just to play my VideoCD collection at the time. This is really cool.

Astonishingly for me, I didn't lose, mislay, or damage the disc in the three days it was in my possession. It played perfectly on our kit. The EMI building was knocked down a few years later. Our VideoCD expansion card is in a museum.
But I still have the (very faded) fax from Kate Bush's brother.
