When I posted this photo earlier I did not realize it was within the theme for the #BlueSkyArtShow. So, here it is again with the appropriate tags. :p #windows

I'm going for a wedding late next month! Should I go to Vikingsholm, probably right?

Some more photos from my camping trip this weekend. Camped at Eagle Point near Emerald Bay in Lake Tahoe. Took a kayak across the bay to see Vikingsholm, the castle/summer home, and then to Fannette Island to climb up to the tea house. Fun stuff.

Lake Tahoe was cool. But my girlfriend planned mostly water stuff. Beach and boat stuff. That's not really for me. I'm not a water person. I did get to see. Emerald bay and Vikingsholm and Sands Harbor. I did get some cool pics. We did a couple of hikes also.

Narrowly escaping a raid by the Vikingsholm clans was certainly one way to remind a soul to celebrate being alive. While the rest of his party got wasted in the Paddleboat's bar, Private Rameriez blew a months pay fucking the captain's daughter behind one of the billowing steam stacks.

Nitwit Ridge was closed when we tried to go in 2022. So sad. Hearst Castle is only of interest in regards to the history of the Silent Era, Citizen Kane, or how fucking crazy Hearst was. Another cool but weird place is Vikingsholm in Tahoe

Vikingsholm itself was a bit underwhelming. I mean, it's fine. But there are many other amazing things to see in the area. If you can get out to the island, that's totally worth it, but requires a boat of some sort.

Fannette Island is home to the ruins of a 1920s tea house built by Lora Knight, the wealthy owner of the Vikingsholm mansion which sits on the shore of Emerald Bay. Once a retreat for her guests, the structure now stands as a popular site for visitors of the second deepest lake in the United States.

An addendum to this thread: the Emerald Bay shuttle will have weekend-only service connecting to South Lake Tahoe's major transit hub, where it'll connect to local buses as well as the Amtrak thruway bus from Sacramento!

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE — The SR-89 Corridor no-parking pilot program begins Tuesday, July 15. There will be no parking along the highway from Cascade Lake to D.L. Bliss State Park, and the only parking allowed will be in the lined spots at Inspiration Point, Eagle Falls and Vikingsholm.  The Tahoe Transportation District has installed temporary barriers to restrict access to illegal and unsafe roadside parking.

Yeah, and on the north shore as well. Although, when I was up there in Oct, there was construction in the casino area (probably trying to get done before the holiday rush). Have you been to Vikingsholm Castle? It's a hike down and back up, but it's kind of cool. It's in Emerald Bay.

Fannette Island in Emerald Bay is the only island in Lake Tahoe. It is only accessible by boat (you can’t swim there anymore). It was once part of the old Vikingsholm property. I’ve canoed here from both Pope and Baldwin Beaches. A few years ago the Bay froze and you could walk out to it. Wow ! 👀😎
