Beautiful botanical details inside & out in this recent acquisition from @quaritch1847.bsky.social: Henrietta Moriarty's 'Viridarium: coloured plates of
greenhouse plants' (London, 1806), produced in part to free her from destitution after the early death of her dissolute husband. CUL 8000.d.1621.

Yes I am STILL on that Viridarium Umbris shit.
Sometimes I wonder why I am taking such detailed notes, since it takes forever, and then I start preparing for a ritual which references five prerequisites scattered throughout various chapters, and am grateful that I can just ctrl + f my notes.

had to take a break recently due to health issues. I had time to decide to take a break from Viridarium and tinker with another idea in parallel.
this is a time lapse of some artwork I'll use for it
I explain more in my devlog arvere.com

Coming with us to Firsts tomorrow is Henrietta Maria Moriarty's Viridarium, a pioneering horticultural work by an impoverished botanist, draughtswoman, and novelist, produced to support her four children after her husband's death. Read more (item 59 in our fair catalogue): bit.ly/Q-Firsts2025...

finally rebooted that fc on crystal from long gone days... still a solo effort for now, but perhaps can become a shared, storied space some day

Considering using this account for liveblogging my reading of Viridarium Umbris, because my friends are probably getting tired of hearing me rant about it.

Bluesky esoteric book challenge. A book per day (it's okay to skip days if you're really busy), in no particular order, until you've shared ALL of the best occult books in your personal library. No explanations, no reviews, just covers!

This #SarcophagusSaturday finds us in the #viridarium or enclosed garden of Paul II in #palazzoVenezia in #Rome, where a #sarcophagus teeming with #Erotes evokes both fecundity and transformation. The #relief work is reminiscent of late-antique ivories. #AncientBluesky 🏺

Un paraíso subterráneo creado por la esposa de Augusto: así es el viridarium de Livia, un jardín inmune a las estaciones dominado por el arte.

For a more poetic slant, I recommend alchemical emblem books

Michael Maier's Atalanta Fugiens

Stolz von Stolzenberg's Viridarium Chymicum

Hand binding the Azoetia is about the best bet you have for affordability (same with Viridarium) but the Sethos and 1e are quite empowered objects. I recommend offering the scraps left over from at-home production to the hearth.

A viridarium is a “peristilum”, or “patio” surrounded by columns which includes a garden. This garden might have replanted after the excavations or not, but shows an area in its original context. Unlike the rest, which you have to use your imagination.

Studying art history gives you some tools to understand, or at least try to understand, what you see when you look at pictures like this one, again from the Mitraeum House in Mérida. And what you see here is stuff with Latin names, obviously. A “viridarium”, in this case
