Haitian Voodou is another. I know of some people who have become priests who aren’t Haitian but it was a long process of showing they could be trusted to join.

honestly one of my consistent axes to grind is that a lot of critiques you could make about Viv's works - depictions of voodou, more mlm ships than wlw ships - are systemic problems across media and fandom. but Viv's vocal critics act like she's the only one doing these things.

Fun Fact: Voodoo Dolls aren't really a thing in true African Spirituality or Voodou. Believe it or not, this is actually based on something from European witchcraft called "poppits" but it became a stereotype for African Americans later on to demonize them and those who actually practice Voodou.

I created this image of her in 2013. She was not a Hoodoo or Voodou practitioner, but there was some overlap in the traditions in New Orleans, such as the use of dried bats in spellwork, and as I have previously shared, the use of Theban script in crafting charms. 👇🏼 #witchmadness

idk who needs to hear this but if you feel the sudden urge to learn about hoodoo / voodoo/voodou / atrs, be it bc of sinners or not, you def should. rootwork literally predates the black church, which a lot of yt pastors used to pay black pastors to spread negativity about african traditions 🤞🏾
