I switched from VScode to Zed only because it can follow the light/dark mode of my OS.

Don't make me turn this car around, Claude Code. I'll run the project myself in vscode! I still have fingers, you know.

vscode extensions too cheap to meter
October 31, 2026 at 5:25 AM
I had Claude write a bespoke vscode extension for working on this one specific repo. Worked pretty well 👍

Anthropic themselves directly published updates overnight on OpenVSX and VSCode Marketplace which were 'fixed', so they knew something had gone on (the updates contained no other changes)... they just forgot to tell anybody.

Phorion has detected a backdoor in the official Claude Code for VS Code extension bundle on the Cursor Marketplace that drops a persistent SSH backdoor across macOS, Linux, and Windows.

(Claude Code and VSCode: malware alert!)

How did I develop this game? I developed it in VSCODE and yes I did use AI to develop it. Like almost all code written today, developers use AI to assist them in developing.

You can tell both MS and Google know its a bunch of shit wank that people don't want by the fact there is not a simple "no AI" setting in vscode and chrome and is instead hundreds of different options and dark patterns to make sure its hard to actually kill the AI and prevent it randomly firing up.

I'm always amused by all the places I find `backdrop-blur` these days. Today's case: The VSCode diff viewer!
