St Jerome in early 16th Century collected glass in Kings College Chapel, Cambridge. He holds his Latin translation of the Bible, popularly known as the Vulgate, still in use by the Latin Church after various revisions and versions over the centuries. The lion he tamed in the desert looks up at him.

Tiens remarque comme ça. Donc dans le cantique des cantiques en hébreu il y a "je suis noire et belle", la Vulgate traduit par "nigra sum sed formosa", et les bibles françaises majoritairement jusque récemment par "noire mais belle". Hier à la conf ça choquait l'auditoire (tant mieux!)

Bury my Heart (Galehaut Laid to Rest)

"And Lancelot himself lay his companion to rest inside the tomb. After he had laid Galehaut down, he kissed him three times on the mouth in such agony that his heart nearly leapt out of his chest."

D'autre part, que le texte latin de la Vulgate n'est vraiment uniformisé qu'après le concile de Trente, avec la Vulgate sixto-clémentine de 1592, et que l'histoire de la Vulgate avant est une histoire diverse, riche, et encore peu connue, malgré la place de la Vulgate dans l'Occident chrétien.

Today, Dec 11, is the feast of Pope Damasus (d. 384) who commissioned the Vulgate as the authoritative Latin Bible, replacing older Vetus Latina translations; Vetus readings continued in use in mainly Vulgate texts for centuries, examples including the 9th-century Book of Armagh

Pst.
Hey!
Hey you, yes, you!

If anyone tells you that in the Middle Ages no-one translated the Bible remind them that the Vulgate is a translation into Latin.

P.S. And there were also numerous other translations into vernacular.
