even with vols smashed the last few days. a VX2 just under 21 is still way high considering the SPX action. and it’s keeping the front part of the board super steep to help prevent any accidents. bullish vortex until June FOMC (at least) is still the roadmap

Looks like someone tried to make a code optimization but forgot the actual memory structure of the temporary memory. instead of reusing the same routine to waste collision energy in each component, they instead call the routine with vx1 and vx2 (like normal), but the second call is with vx2 and vy1

3 sessions later, October VX is .60 lower. a VX2 hasn’t been below 18 in a long time. setup into FOMC in between into September options settlements getting a bit more dangerous. I’ll bid 17.75 early next week

gonna use the run up to Feb 2018 volmageddon as a reason to focus (maybe not obsess as much as I do) on the VX curve.
the left graph shows the curve on Dec 2017 settlement, the right Jan, 2018 settlement. notice how the VX1-VX2 contango on the left was .9, and on the right it was .45.

8 days until September VX settlement versus 8 days before August settled. the VX2 contract is .8 lower now, even as October has the extra 5 week cycle (that September didn’t). been a while since we had to worry about the front end getting to know and flat (uhhhh especially given that jobs report)

Now to be entirely fair, the memory structure is written as vx1,vx2,vy1,vy2 instead of how a normal human being would write vector component math as vx1,vy1,vx2,vy2, which is how the writer of the routine mistakenly (correctly) thought the temporary memory was laid out
