In the game Avowed, you meet a godlike of Eothas, and something I really love about the conversation with him is that his perspective on Waidwen is shaped by his point of view and what he knows and, thus, is almost completely wrong

For you see, this temple was not burned down in some ancient cataclysm. It was destroyed mere years before, burned down by villagers incensed by their kingdom being invaded by the Saint-King Waidwen, who claimed to be the living incarnation of the god Eothas.

With Waidwen slain by the Godhammer bomb, the people of the kingdom turned on their fellows who worshiped Eothas - and yet, despite the god being dead for years, and the temple being abandoned long enough for monsters and ghosts to be its only inhabitants...

Big agree, especially about finding secrets. It's worth reading every book, too. Sometimes you get really neat bits of lore. Sometimes you get godly smut
A page from a piece of suggestive writing about the gods in Avowed. It says: The spine of this book bears a stamp designating it as part of the restricted collection of The Halls Obscured. It apepars to have been stolen. Every page is filled with closely-packed writing and illustrations. One passage reads: Saint Waidwen pursed his lips and stared down the glowing, glowering visage which peered at him between stalks of vorlas. He gripped the wooden shaft of his scythe, slick with sweat from his palms - the hands of a working man, which he was. "Then you're Eothas, then," he said "THAT I AM" said the god "Then you already know what I want" said the farmer, who was Waidwen. "THAT I DO" A page from a piece of suggestive writing about the gods in Avowed. It says: "Waidwen unknotted the taut cord which restrained his ponytail and let the flowing, flowering locks cascade aroudn his shoulders and rest over the shelf of his bosom. He winked and cleared his throat before winking again. "I've got a candle hasn't been lit properly" Eothas moved closer and... The passage cuts off abruptly with a series of jagged notes pressed deeply into the parchment: Eora is not ready for this

The partnership between Waidwen and Eothas is so interesting- Eothas had a cause and both him and Waidwen think of the latter as anything but pawn. But being an Engwithan God himself, Eothas just can't help but achieving it in an extremely roundabout way LOOOL

Second this. I absolutely *adore* Deadfire's art direction.

The weathered paper/parchment feel of the portraits and cutscenes, in particular, is fantastic.

And the Waidwen/Godhammer scene (Felipe's top right screenshot) might be one of my favourite CRPG levels ever.

Not that recent stuff like Baldur's Gate III, Avowed, Wrath of the Righteous or Kingdom Come 2 aren't pretty, but Pillars 2 is IMO one of the most gorgeous RPGs ever made.
