This Male Walckenaeria acuminata may be common but its a fantastic looking spider, since getting into Linys this Genus is so fasinating. And its great that the male and female of this species can be Identified with a hand Lens.

@britishspiders.bsky.social @cofnod.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social @graemelyons.bsky.social Getting December off to a bang! I love finding new spiders and this one is particularly nice. I don't think I was long out of nappies the last time this was found in Bucks

A Walckenaeria subpallida male from Seashore State Park, Virginia.

Oftentimes erigonine males (money / dwarf spiders in the family Linyphiidae) have carapace extensions and modifications that allow females to grip them during mating.

Some genera of Money #spiders Linyphyiidae are present as adults throughout the year, often with peak male activity in the #winter months (see chart for Walckenaeria acuminata). Whatever the weather, it's a good time to be out looking for them and their wonderfully distinctive headgear! #Christmas

@britishspiders.bsky.social @tylanberry.bsky.social A pleasure to show @cofnod.org.uk Richard Gallon around a couple of sites in the shire. Sadly no obvious sign of Midia midas, but Walckenaeria corniculans and Mastigusa arietina made sure he didin't leave empty handed

Nice to catch up with this nationally scarce species again, Walckenaeria obtusa. There is something really fasinating about this Genus.

1/2 #speciesaday no. 677 is Walckenaeria acuminata. Periscope up! The male of this spider has its eyes spread out along the turret - 4 half way and the other 4 at the top! This genus is an utter joy, I love showing this spider to people for the first time. Even the female has a small protrusion.

Love a walc, this makes 6 species at the woodland site in Sussex i record for, its Walckenaeria cuspidata.

Good thing I don't have arachnophobia. Just had to spend a good 10 minutes searching spiders on google to find the one that crawled off my daughter. Walckenaeria castanea, itty bitty and not a threat.
