15 years ago today I arrived on Downing Street in a cage.
I've seen off Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak and I'm still going strong.
Only two Prime Ministers have ever done longer stints here: William Pitt the Younger and Sir Robert Walpole.
Bill and Bob - I'm coming for you...

“Mr Loader told her to 'stay in the kitchen where she belonged instead of going out drinking with boys

Walpole went to her garage and returned with a container of petrol. She poured it over him and waved her lighter around before he teased her, saying 'go on, do it', then Walpole set him alight”

Seems like a good time to share some news: this fall I will start as Librarian and Executive Director of the Lewis Walpole Library at Yale. The Walpole is such a special place; I'm honored and excited to help expand the library's scholarly programming and public outreach in #18thc British studies.

This is litterally what the entire US system of government was designed to avoid. This dude thinks he's Walpole without the Whigs.

272 years ago, on the 28th of January 1754, the word serendipity was first used. English writer and politician sir Horace Walpole used the word in a letter in reference to the Persian fairy tale 'The Three Princes of Serendip'. #otd #history 🗃️
