There are a few typical first novel flaws but the whole is definitely greater than the sum of the parts. Most of the time travel is off the page so characters take centre stage to great effect. #wasreading #booksky

Slightly disappointed by this. Plenty of interesting stuff in both the convent of an unpleasant new religion and the climate wrecked outside but I never really felt convinced that both part belonged together. #wasreading #booksky

Somehow took more than 2 weeks to read this predictably well crafted novel. It follows Edith in 1960s Italy and present day Ireland exploring themes of identity, belonging and family. (Possibly slightly subext is for cowards if I were going to be harsh). #wasreading #booksky

It would be a lie to say this novel is unpredictable, it hits lots of typical coming of age beats but it still doesn't quite do things the you might expect it to and the voice is engaging and full of panache. #booksky #wasreading

Loved the premise of people trapped in a sinister author's novel; jumping from book to book to make their escape. Wasn't taken by the execution though it does have interesting things to say about the nature of fictional worlds. #wasreading #booksky

Sold as a crime novel but really a brutal view of corruption permeating Argentine society showing just how the wheels are greased. A shame the dialogue didn't feel massively Argentine but a minor quibble with this deceptively subtle short novel. #booksky #wasreading
