Why is Ethiopia's #GERD (Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam) so controversial? Because it could potentially cause water shortages downstream to #Egypt and #Sudan as their agricultural sector is entirely reliant on waterflows from the Nile River.

And to complicate things further, #India fears #China could weaponize the dam against India in the future by withholding waterflows to India during times of geopolitical tension. This will only increase animosity between India and China and trigger a potential water wars (war over drinking water).
As usual the #CCP ignores dire warnings even by China's own experts. The area is prone to frequent high intensity quakes. If the dam ever breaks it would release billions of tons of water destroying everything in its path and flooding #India / #Bangladesh disrupting the lives of millions downstream.
