Finished Blacktail by Scott Hawkins, it's like Watership Down with a WAY higher body count (there's even a little Watership reference in it), I love the decidedly non-human mythic underpinnings, and it's a real weird book told in a strange way. Doesn't surpass Mt. Char but very little does for me

In Watership Down, the rabbits can only count to four. Any larger number becomes “five,” which simply means “many.” For Donald Trump, any period of time greater than a few days is “two weeks.” September was two weeks ago. So was the Cretaceous.
Trump: “We had a very good meeting with President Xi two weeks ago at the White House.”

Xi visited in September.

I can see some parallels beign wildwood and watership down, but it lacked the viscerality Watership down has (I felt) . Need more visceral media for kids that are shown on repeated sunday afternoons.

He's right. Mine's "Watership Downtown," about NYPD Detective Hazel Rawls and her partner, the hard-nosed Lou "Bigwig" Kaminski, stationed at the precinct at the fictional 3rd & Watership as they solve the toughest cases in the Buroughs.

and yes watership down is bleakest, Wildwood isn't nearly that bleak

"Wildwood" is something else huh? Took my kids to see it today on their day off. All three of us were blown away. As someone who grew up on "Redwall" and "Watership Down" it felt targeted at my heart. Beautiful film.

I haven't seen Wildwood yet but it feels like the first time gen x parents have had the change to traumatise their children as they were traumatised as children. Gen alpha finally meets their watership down, their when the wind blows, their not now bernard?
